Would a Prime Dempsey V Louis resemble Louis's first fight against Schmeling?

If a prime Dempsey and Louis locked horns, would we see another version of Louis v schmeling 1.?
With Jack striking out fast, hurting Joe early, and Louis bravely trying to recover and fight back, but eventually Dempsey stopping him late in the fight? I realise Joe was younger against max, took him lightly and paid the price, and later destroyed him. But is it a realistic scenario where Louis never gets over a early attack by Dempsey and is stopped after a number of rounds? Joe could be caught early on, if this was against Dempsey it could be a hard struggle to gain control.

This is one of those fights where the guy that lands the first heavy leather might just finish the job quickly. The winner will be proclaimed invincible and the loser a bum, despite the fact that it's pretty darn close and could have gone the other way as easily.

It might have been a pretty interesting fight if they respected each other's offence though.

I think that it would be as different from that fight as possible, regardless of who won.

Nothing s for certain of course, but I see that has a very possible scenario. Joe was a slow starter, Dempsey extremely fast, he hurts Louis early and Joe is never given the chance to recover. But Louis has balls of steel and try s to come back. Dempsey s got him though now, and somewhere late on he's finally stopped. That's just my take. How do you see it going janitor prime for prime?

Firstly I think that Schmeling basically played possum in the early rounds, and ambushed Louis.

As for Louis Dempsey, I wouldn't stand too close to the ropes, in case I fell in!

Dempsey would try to go in and rip Louis's head off, while Louis would think that all his Christmases had come at once, when he had an opponent willing to come straight at him.

I wouldn't last long either way.

I would go with Louis if you put a gun to my head.

I shall stick to my feelings on this one. Jack would only be to happy to oblige Joe and we know he isn't just going to walk in to Louis s space with his hands down and his chin stuck out. Take the Braddock kd, which really didn't ruffle Joe but imagine that's a Dempsey strike!. Jack s got a good solid chin to weather him through. I don't say Louis won't catch Dempsey but I see him striking Joe faster and doing the most damage first.
Put the gun to my head ill go with speed and power.

Calling Dempsey a mere "slugger" is an understatement.

Max waited for Louis to jab and drop his left on the way back. He whipped that right over and over again. It took about 40 good right hands to finish the job. Though he did hurt Louis in the 4th. I don't see Dempsey doing that. He was an attacking fighter who imposed his will and style onto his opponent.

I think Joe Louis would catch Dempsey coming in with something hard and stop him in his tracks. We know what kind of finisher The Brown Bomber was.

I don't think so. Louis vs Max was a tactical fight. Jack vs Joe would be kill or be killed. Dempsey by KO.

I don't know, I think Louis is the better all round fighter, but Dempsey could overwhelm him

Certainly Dempsey is on Louis attacking from the opening bell. Fast, extremely aggressive looking to end it very early.

Certainly Blackburn is not stupid and Louis DOES NOT meet Dempsey mid ring. Never happen in a million years.

Louis instead fights a sidestepping counterpunching style looking to land a haymaker counter to hurt Jack THEN go in for the kill. Look at Louis bout with Max Baer as an example.

Bout could go either way. Dempsey early with a two handed attack. Louis at any time with a brutal counter and follow up combinations to end it.

Louis was quick to end a bout once he hurt an opponent but a slow starter right out of the gate and Louis did not take it on the chin as well as Jack. I have no idea who would win but my gut tells me Dempseys huge surge at the start of round one could make it a short night.
