If so who is he ,and who also could be considered as credible names for the position?

I think it's Charles myself and the maths is simple. If it's not Charles, it's Moore and Charles beat Moore three times.

Ali and Louis are very very close but if they shared an era and Louis beat Ali three times, there's no argument.

It's hardly a leftfield choice, but I think Greb has a shout too.

So, Charles, Moore or Greb and I think the head-to-head factor means that Charles is the natural choice. I wouldn't want to eat anyone's lunch for picking any one of these three though.

Charles all the way. Personally I don't understand how Moore can be ranked over him with 3 head to head losses.

H2H - Charles, Moore, Spinks or Tunney
Resume - Charles, Moore, and Greb? Or Tunney? Have to go over boxrec again.

Evander Holyfield. I think he beats all the guys mentioned above. If he could beat
Dwight Qwawi he could beat anyone.

Ezzard Charles is generally ranked #1, at least in seems in lists I read.

Holyfield never fought at 175 as a pro. He started off a couple pounds over 175 and went up.

    Holyfield-Qawi was at 190.

My bad about the Qawi fight, but Evander did win an Olympic medal at LHW and fought his few six bouts at LHW.

I think it's Charles as well, although I guess you could go really old-school and make an argument for Bob Fitzsimmons, Kid McCoy, or Philadelphia Jack O'Brien.

So where do you rank Spinks who did actually beat Qawi at 175, comfortably. Qawi held the other title too.

I see Spinks as an ATG....very underrated in my book. OK he got a gift in Holmes II but he legitimately defeated the HW champ the first time. Yaqui Lopez, Murray Sutherland, Vonzell Johnson, David Conteh, Eddie Muhammed Gregory, all are very good names on his resume at LHW and Holmes and Cooney at HW!

He only lost once, and that's the one everyone remembers. Y'all musta forgot.

    I certainly don't forget.

I was querying as you said if Holyfield can beat Qawi he can beat anyone. As said Holyfield didn't beat him at 175 so is null and void in any 175 discussion really. A couple of nothing fights there early on are easily dismissed.

I was just wondering if you would afford Spinks the same credit.

I would have no problem with anyone having Spinks top 5, he's a great. I don't overly rate him as a heavyweight but give him full credit for beating an aged Holmes and winning the heavyweight title.

Yes, I equate Holyfield's skills with Spinks' skills. Would have been a great matchup at 190.

I'm always surprised when people leave Holyfield off their top 10 HW champs. The guy beat everyone
put up against him. OK he fought way past his due by date, like Roy Jones, but still....up to the Ruiz fights in
2000 his resume should be included in any ATG discussion.

For sure, i would have Holyfield top 10. Somewhere around 8-10 but deffo inside the 10. Maybe a rung ahead of Tyson. Tyson, Holyfield and Frazier would be very close together in my list i think.
