The first time you quit, it's hard. The next time, it's a little easier. After that, you don't even think about it. Quote from Bear Bryant. Kova quit vs. Ward in the rematch, bending at the waist from legit body shots, begging the ref, turning away, etc. So this shouldn't be a surprise. Because you know what quitters do? They quit.
I hope he dosen't quit because of the farce of the last two fights. Just dump HBO, Kathy and head back to Russia and have a few EE dust-up with some exciting rivals.
It be a shame if Kovalev retired right now, which I'm hoping won't happen. He's one of my favorite fighters. Imo, I think he's still got a lot to offer, fights wise. Just because he didn't get the W from Ward doesn't mean Kovalev is a terrible fighter. Prior to the Ward fights, he was cleaning up the light heavyweight division with ease, imo. I want him to continue on for a few more years at least.
His last fight against Ward showed that he may not have the heart to continue this highly demanding sport.
Always liked Krusher so hope he returns. The true test is how you cope with losing and justified or not he lost two of his biggest fights back to back. I just hope he can get his head right and stay in the game as he takes no BS and always shows up to fight. I had no issue with the scores for fight 1- with Ward and the second fight I felt Krusher should of returned foul for foul. With that said I would still support and cheer for the bad AZE Krusher and he can take the belt from Super-Pimp
As a question do we think Clev can be classed as more mentally robust than Kovalev if Kovalev retires? Obviously Kov is the more formidable fighter but Clev seems to have a bigger heart. He found his level, which turned out to be much lower than he expected, he could of left boxing with plenty of money in the bank and the smarts to make it work for him and yet he put himself through some pretty punishing matches taking his defeats with grace and rising up with a full heart after each setback.
Cleverly is very mentally tough he's also a pretty intelligent bloke, Kovalev is alot more stubborn, and probably not as clever, I think he's lost his krusher image now, and it's gotten to him. But he's still a great fighter.
It doesnt help that he's jaded towards boxing and is a bit paranoid everyone else is out to get him. I think a career full of getting the short end of the stick has gotten to him, and the Ward fights were the straw that broke the camel's back. He's Frank Grimes to Ward's Homer Simpson.
