McGregor is a prime time UFC champion but his stamina and punching power seems to be significantly inferior to the one of current Boxers. Watching the fight last night I kind of started to believe that ufc fighters are a joke compared to boxers and the sport of UFC is a step down from boxing. In my opinion McGregor should have done better than that. UFC got a big hit last night as a sport. You can not call a guy like that a fighter. How bad is the quality of UFC fighters, are boxers physically stronger ?
Overall its come out with a fairly sizeable positive for boxing. There will be lots of MMA fans who will now be more interested in boxing and who did not consider it previously as a sport to actively follow. May got the W- it was a overly cautious performance and McGregor landed alot more than anyone else expected. So this would be a negative. But lets be frank here, May is a marmite fighter. A lot of boxing fans do not find his style particularly exciting. For boxing vs MMA, a come forward aggressive and power puncher would have made it a much better spectacle. However the fight was purely made because May was the best known boxer as a 49-0 fighter and champion, and McGregor was the latest flavour of the month in MMA.
I don't think boxing gained, but I do think it came away relatively unscathed, which is the best result boxing fans could have hoped for. McGregor also leaves with his reputation more or less intact with his MMA fans, although his punching power has been shown up to be a myth, at least to boxing fans. I kinda wish that Mayweather hadn't given him 2-3 free rounds though, because you know these MMA fanboys are going to be banging on about that from now to eternity. And I wish the ref had let it go just a little bit longer, just so that there can be no doubt left with the result. But it is what it is, boxing survives another day.
His boxing fans are crying with excuses for his poor performance. 'He's 40, he's small, he came forward'. More excuses than *******s. You KNEW THIS before the fight and still were saying how much of a domination it would be. That is now how you fight a 0-0 novice even if you've had almost two years out of the ring. Conor won around 4 rounds in there - Floyd had no intention of letting Conor win four rounds I'm afraid. Floyd looked like he was waiting until Conor gassed out - that is not a strategy to respect, this is just an admission that Floyd couldn't handle Conor until Conor was gassed - that is cowardice. Floyd was obviously going to stay in punching range because of Conor's particular style, people also paid to watch a FIGHT and Floyd stayed in punching range with a guy as big as Conor, in Canelo Alvarez. Floyd damn well better make the fight by bringing it to him, Conor is the beginner with no real boxing experience AND Floyd should've been able to toy with him Berto style from the opening round. Even despite Floyd bringing it to Conor, he was losing rounds and that is not befitting of 'the most skilled fighter of all time'. Such BS. THERE IS NO MASTERY in Floyd's ducking, running, tapping style and it has no real bearing in fighting - it's literally just a loophole to the modern boxing criteria when speaking holistically about it's place in fighting. Floyd was still at least Jessie Vargas level. People are going to go away saying 'we knew Conor was up against it, but he was still winning some of those rounds in there. This shows that someone can compete at the highest level'. Meh, Conor was able to have that much success against Floyd who was coming forward..that's embarrassing enough for me, pretty off-putting. But then again, I'm speaking to a bunch of people who think BS like: a. Erislandy Lara has a masterful style/is elite even though it's just fencing b. A boxer beats an MMA fighter in a street fight.
An old, retired, shot Floyd just made the ufc's only remaining cash cow with a 25 pound weight advantage look like a prime, unathletic, featherfisted amateur.
Didn't watch the fight, but some of these fans are so clouded by either Mayweather love or MMA hate. I mean I love boxing a lot more than MMA too, but I have a few brain cells in my brain at least. Mayweather is a better boxer than McCreggor. But that doesn't make boxing a better fighting "discipline". You dumb ****s, it was a boxing match where fighting was only allowed with two fists striking from the belly button to the head. That is nothing like real fighting. MMA is closer to real fighting you morons, it's less limited in what you can do per the rules. And you know what's even more like real fighting than even MMA? Actual fighting is more like real fighting, but that **** can get scary because real fighting is not something to **** around with. Real fighting uses weapons and there is no intent to outclass or "win" or "decision", blah, blah, blah. Real fighting is about hurting somebody as much as possible and often times with the intention of actually killing the enemy. So **** off with the "boxing better discipline for fighting ****". You want to actually fight? Head on down to the U.S. Marines recruiting office and they will teach you how to fight.
I was not totally sober but it seemed Floyd just let the guy unload and then took over from the 6th and worked his AZE into a standing zombie. I give the MMA guy credit for his heart and will carried him longer than I expected. No doubt Floyd has slowed down but he still executed his plan and it worked. He gave the fans a fight for several rounds by not doing much and then executed his plan. Game over.
No. Lewis once told me a boxer has more of a chance to win in MMA than a MMA fighter in boxing . Well that sums up his knowledge outside of boxing ,who really thinks Mayweather at ANY age lasts nearly 5 minutes with any top or even average UFC fighter who will impose ACTUAL physical strength on Floyd? Lace boxing gloves on and its still a punchers chance for anyone . Yea you can find matches to disprove that but even M.Tyson who probably had the best style to transition into MMA said any boxer that goes into MMA without some grappling ability is a fool . Does anyone really think McGregor going 10 rnds with NO boxing experience was bad ? lol No boxer would ever make a career in MMA without decent grappling ability ,you can still throw any sub par MMA fighter in boxing and get wins even with poor competition (Kimbo Slice ) who also beat up Mercer in MMA ,pretty much shows whats what . Boxing is harder to master ,but MMA isnt a style its a sport where more variables come into play making it harder to stay undefeated . The UFC's HW division in its HISTORY has never had a Champion defend his title more than 2x ,that shows you just how difficult it is to stay on top. MMA fighters will utlize more physical strength than boxers because of the grappling involves, controlling and using actual muscle strength to control someone ina cage is a huge factor ..in boxing? Not so much outside of clinches that the referee breaks up. you can see had McGregor been able to throw Floyd around he could have done so very easy....what actually cost him the fight was instinctively going around Mayweather as he turtled up instead of using good footwork and side stepping to the front.
Mayweather was physically stronger than McGregor and easily man handled him in the clinch or when he tried any rough stuff. This was despite being 40, retired, having no grappling experience and giving away 20lbs. The fight also showed that the punching power boxers have is on a different planet to MMA fighters, Paulie Malignaggi hits a lot harder than McGregor. The fact that in MMA he is classed as a puncher with 86% KO/TKO ratio also shows that lots of MMA fighters have no defense and no chin.
Holy **** all these stupid opinion make my head hurt. Why can't a mod send threads like this to Hell where they belong and the ones who start them stick to playing video games?
