How much did the pressure from fans and media influence Canelo to fight Golovkin?

Pressure from fans and media really work

He is fighting him 2 years later then he should of but its still ok....

He never wanted to get in the ring with him but he knows he has to show the Mexican pride....

Probably a lot, but I still think Canelo would've ducked the fight had Golovkin not looked so beatable in his last couple fights.

Canelo was having nightmares about Golovkin knocking on his door and saying "this is box, you be a good boy and respect the box. Mexican style for big Drama show."

There's truth there, however I also want to point out another angle of it:

If Canelo kept waiting, there was a good chance some other MW would beat either Golovkin or himself and ruin the superfight. Derevyanchenko, Charlo, Jacobs (rematch in GGG case), even an in-shape BJS are all dangerous. That would be a huge $$$ blow to Canelo, financially he made the right decision regardless of fan pressure.

I'm not so sure about BJS, word leaking out from his camp is that he's in excellent shape and back to his best. We'll see Sept 16

Yes, it will be interesting to see how BJS copes with Monroe, who's actually quite skilled.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the fight itself is a dull borefest

yea it could be Monroe is skilled but lacks power. as long as hes not facing a power puncher he can beat anyone .

The fiasco over the WBC belt .Trash talk then meekly handing it back rather than defend it cost him a lot of support. He's got to step up against GGG & look good its really make or break for him. I know the Mexican fans around here are all for GGG over just that

I'm sure Canelo had plans to move up some day, but just to a new Caneloweight, or against the drained walking dead like Chavez Jr. Not to be a real 160 lb. fighter.

With Golovkin, Canelo gave into the public pressure, just like he did with Lara. I'm sure the two carniceria employees who train him were always against this, just like they were against Canelo fighting Sergio. And who knows Canelo's limitations better than those guys?

I don't call Canelo a coward I just call him "not ready " when he opened his mouth almost two years ago. The media and fans applied a tight knot around Canelo and he began to pressure Oscar who was the ONE holding his piggy bank like a baby about to get his wee wee cut.:rolleye:
Cheers to Canelo saying YES to the dress:rota2:
