Today at work I heard people actually talk about boxing. Which never happens. I remember after Kovalev Ward I and Kovalev Ward II not a peep. I don't think anybody even knew that the fight happened much less who the hell Ward and Kovalev are.

But now they were talking about a 40 year old has been fighting an MMA guy in a boxing ring. Do these people even realize/know who Terrence Crawford is? And the fact that right now he'd beat the ever living daylights out of Mayweather?

People were talking about Gervontae Davis like he's the next big thing. Everybody kept talking about the guy. Casuals who know nothing. These people think he's a "mini Mike Tyson". They don't even know how utterly shamelessly he ducked Lomachenko. They don't even know what a "Lomachenko" is.

Then people said boxing was not the same as it used to be. That they product is inferior to NFL and MMA. Well if all you watch is Mayweather fight then yes you will get an inferior product. That's called a boring fighter. But to them back in the day there was Trinidad and De La Hoya and Mike Tyson. Blah, blah, blah.

This sport is on it's last legs when it comes to the fans. Boxing needs a revamp business model wise. PBC was our great hope and it failed.

No worries. The December fight will put Loma on the map with casuals. I think he'll put on a show and ESPN is televising it. The Triple G v.s Canelo fight will do very good also. The Cruiser tourney will be nonstop highlights and if they promote it right... will rival anything other combat sports are coming out with. A lot of exciting stuff ahead in my opinion.

Not to mention how much the 175 division is getting stacked.

The marketing scheme is all ****ed up. There are TV friendly fighters out there. But they are not marketed properly. Boxing isn't up to date. The idea of cable boxing being king is ridiculous. And then when you add PPV to it, it just gets dumber. People don't care about cable anymore. Cable isn't some big deal anymore. Everything has gone social media and viral. Boxing is stuck in the 90s.

You really think anybody is going to give a rats ass about a Cruiserweight tourney full of obscure Euro's? Yes Canelo GGG is the biggest fight to be made as far as getting eyeballs to watch. Because the Mexican fans are the only people left who actually still live and breathe boxing.

    It's hard to care sometimes.

Then out of the blue a unexpected great match comes along and we all fall in love again.

They said boxing was corrupt in the 50's with The Mob But the corruption today make the mob look like choir boys. It starts at the top. with the State Cpmmissions. Who polices them ?? No one. They bend rules or invent new ones tp keep their cash cows "winning" Many fighters have been blatantly wronged & robbed & their response is "We will not be investigating"
The greatest sport in the world is being destroyed

Things that make people think "boxing is dead":

    1. There isn't some league/main sanctioning body. People don't understand how to follow boxing with all the sanctioning bodies and promoters and business contracts.
    2. Lack of white english speakers at the top of the game. Despite the fact that the Europeans are very good, they can't speak english and even if they could there is a huge culture gap that makes them not able to relate to western markets. McGregor did this.
    3. The best fighter for a long time was a guy who was not known to have an exciting style. This really did hurt boxing, even though Floyd was good, he did hurt the sport in some ways.
    4. The UFC. The UFC is heavily marketed, they control all the fighters in this "league" and can create the narratives and get the "best" to fight the "best". The UFC only pays a fraction of what boxing does, but it has crap athletes who are highly replaceable. I believe if boxing was unified under the same system, it could become easier to watch for casuals. Understanding boxing can take years, with all the belts, promoters, channels etc.

I think ONE good thing they are doing is putting boxing back on ESPN. It has had NO EXPOSURE in recent years and the promoters need to get together and unify, as I think it will help all their bottom lines to move boxing back into the spotlight.

Very few people have followed boxing after the 70s. The 80s were ruled by Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson alone, who else was selling anything back then either? The Fab Four were happy that Tyson was there to help keep the attention up. The 90s first half was carried by Tyson and the second half by Oscar De La Hoya and by the early 2000s the main division which was the Heavies was out of the loop all together.
Boxing is a business and a sport like everything else and it currently lacks PERSONALITY!!
There is a section of this board that believes that some Euro outsider is going to suddenly get peoples attention in boxing and it would have happened already if it was possible. There ain't no true cuck of foreign men like the one on boxing forums on the internet. I wonder do some of you even live in reality outside of this site. I pray that this site never goes away because Todd, Dos, Kevin, and Sephiroth will commit suicide like the Heaven's Gate cult.

There used to be a phrase, "So goes the Heavyweight Champion (i.e Division) so goes Boxing".

BTW, who actually is the heavyweight champion?

Interestingly, I had a couple of people at work ask me (they know I'm a boxing guy) how Crawford would do against Floyd if they fight, or if Floyd was big enough to fight the Canelo vs. GGG winner (they were aware of that fight coming up).

Also, Pac vs. Horn generated discussion on whether Manny got robbed, would he win a rematch, etc. And AJ vs. Klitschko was a topic of discussion for a few days after.

I've heard more lately than in a while.

Seems like it's doing fine and better in the UK, Germany, etc. Let them carry the ball for awhile. In the current socio-political climate here at home, if boxing was more than a niche sport it would be regulated out of existence. Look at what they're doing to football.

We all know who Loma, Rigo, Crawford are in this forum but in the USA nobody really cares. We don't even give a **** about a guy like Ronaldo here why would casuals care about Loma? Loma is my current #1 fighter but let's be real.

You're completely wrong. Out of the blue? This year has had amazing match ups. As a hardcore, it's easy as hell to love and care for this sport.
