Theres good reason to believe that Charles could have beaten Jones. I mean, either way it isn't written in stone, but Charles could arguably be favored.

I think Jones looks to have the most winnability out of every LHW I've ever seen, that's why I have him stop my list.

But the choice for consensus number 1 has to be Charles imo.

You have Joey Maxim, Jose Torres, Dick Tiger, Virgil Hill, Jean Pascal, Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson and Adonis Stevenson all ahead of Ezzard Charles at Light Heavyweight.

    Ok.

Uh, anybody else thinks Dick Tiger vs. Virgil Hill would be interesting?

That is not the criteria of the thread.
I asked for a consensus number one light heavyweight ,not the consensus number one light heavyweight champion.

Greb has more wins in more fights against ATG, HOF, and champion LHWs than any other LHW fighter. Look it up.

Since you created the thread and didnt stipulate I will defer to you. If he wants to create another thread stipulating "champion" he can do so. Frankly, IMO, several guys who have a strong argument for being the greatest LHW ever never got a shot at that title and had to "settle" for titles in other divisions where the champions were more brave or simply never got a shot. There isnt a year from 1917 to 1926 that I would favor a world LHW champion over Greb and there isnt a year from the time Conn dropped the title until Charles challenged for the HW title that Id pick a LHW champion to beat him. Langfords case is a bit trickier given his issues with weight and how new and unsolidifed the idea of a LHW title was when he was still able to make weight.

Modern boxing. Spinks has the best resume. But Roy would be favored over anyone

Not by me. Id pick several guys to knock Jones head off. I think Dwight Qawi would stomp a mud hole in Jones and I dont rate him the best LHW ever.

I don't think you should count LT Heavyweights who went on to win heavyweight championships. When you do Charles and Tunney rise to the top. Otherwise Moore, Conn, Spinks, Loughran, Langford and others can all make a claim for the top spot.
