An ear bite is far less dangerous than a head butt, let alone multiple head butts. Any neurologist would agree. An ear bite is more of a cosmetic injury. Head butts can give you concussions or worse.

Plus, Tysons ear biting was in response to dirty tactics used against him and the ref's unwillingness to enforce the rules. I think he just lost his temper with being head butted constantly.

And Botha was fighting dirty too. It wasn't all one way.

The problem is is thst Tyson is looked on as the bad guy so anything wrong he did got magnified, while guys like Ali or Holyfield, had a good guy persona so even if they did something similar or worse, it gets looked over and downplayed.

Like Ali's betrayal of Fraizer. Its little known that Fraizer loaned Ali one million dollars during his exile. If you adjust for inflation since the late 60s, thats multiple millions today. Only for Ali to turn around and publicly humiliate Fraizer by talking about him the way he did. If Tyson did that to someone who had been kind to him during a particular down time, it would be talked about to no end.

Tyson ear bites once, Holyfield head butts multiple times and Tyson is the bad guy. Just like one can say Tyson ear bited to get out of the fight, one can also say Holyfield head butted because he knew he couldn't beat Tyson fair and square. Otherwise, why'd he head butt?

But it always comes back to what Tyson did so that he's wrong no matter what.

    Frazier loaned Ali $1000,000? NFW!!!!

Holyfield was as confident of beating Tyson as anyone could be
I don't know that I would call Naz a bully, but he is a prize c*nt!

    It's part of the mythology.

Tyson was known as a bully on the streets when he was a kid. He beat up other kids for their dinner money and beat up old women for their purses. That's a bully.

Liston did similar stuff but graduated to armed robbery. Later he worked as a goon for mobsters, debt collecting, breaking bones and beating up union 'troublemakers'. That's professional bullying, also known as 'strongarming'.

I believe the argument is were they bullies in the ring and would they necessarily fold under adversity?

If Tyson and Liston fought McCall and Bonavena, the bullying would end real quick.

    Mcall was Tysons sparring partner.

Liston would beat Bonavena like he stole something.

McCall was crazy enough to even make Tyson pause. Bonavena wild enough to make Sonny hesitate.

That last point ... ever so yes!

My least favourite fighter ever. There was nothing about this guy that didn't really get on my pip. I was grateful to MAB for beating him but wish he had given him more of a pasting. To be fair to the ugly little c*nt, he took his lumps on the night.

I think Tyson is judged a bit harshly as far as heart is concerned. Because if he just quit in the middle of a fight he'd have still gotten paid. But he kept fighting until he physically couldnt stand upright. Heart and chin are 2 separate things. A fighter could have a glass chin but all the heart in the world. Not saying Tysons chin was glass.

What I am saying is being knocked out doesnt mean you quit or dont have heart. Holmes is well known for his fighting heart, but was stopped in 4 by Tyson. No doubt if Holmes was physically able, he'd have gotten up and fought some more.

It was just that he got hit hard enough on the chin where his body couldn't respond. When Tyson went down against Douglas, I say it showed heart to get pummelled for 10 rounds and even still try to get up and fight back even in a daze.

Its storytelling. Announcers and writers looking to hook an audience with relatable themes.

I might be mistaken but I personally dont recall the Tyson bully narrative really taking root until later in his career.

Tyson didn't pause in sparring and Bonavena was a tough guy but so was Liston....he was much better and hit harder

Tyson on the way up was seen as Kid Dynamite, a young phenom standing up to bigger older men.
