Anyone else sick of these Nxtgen shows?

I'm all for watching our British prospects on sky TV work their way up the ladder by knocking over a few tomato cans on a sky card that's mixed with competive established pro fighters, but to dedicate a whole Sky show just to watching prospects take on guys who aren't there to win is a **** show. It seems to be taking away from the traditional Sky saturday night shows, how many have we even had this year? And there doesn't seem to be many lined up between now & the next few months.

 

I don't mind the concept, but it seems a waste when they take up slots on regular sky sports channels.

 

At the end of the day Hearn has said that these shows are in addition to the Saturday shows that sky do so we are not missing out on any shows. Plus there is a title fight on the card i believe and another decent fight for Jake Ball. Plus they have sold out York Hall so people are obviously interested in it and its on a Friday night so it doesn't replace a Saturday fight night.
Over the next few months there is the 30th Sep Liverpool card, Ryan Burnett unification, Crolla vs Burns, a Monaco show yet to be announced, AJ card, Tony Bellew card, Kell Brook back in December, that's just the next 3/4 months.
If you don't like it then don't watch it.

 

Agree completely: these sorts of mismatches serve no purpose other than to pad the records of the spotlighted 'house' fighters, which means these young guns are missing out on valuable seasoning / learning fights which will help them along and help them improve, help them to deal with different types of opponent and help those fighters to overcome adversity down the line -- should adversity arise, they would then have that experience in the bank to know how to come through the test with flying colours. That's the logical practice for developing and moving along a touted prospect.

These sorts of mismatches also cause die-hard fans to switch off. Personally, I'd much rather see one 50-50 / 55-45 / 60-40 matchup between the likes of Masher Dodd and Tom Stalker -- who fight on September 30 -- than a dozen mismatches all on a card, one after the other.

N17 made the point after Conor Benn's last fight, which bears repeating here: Surely it cannot be a coincidence that Conor Benn has faced non-punchers in all seven of his completed fights to date.

Perhaps Matchroom and Eddie know something about Conor Benn that we don't yet know...

 

Christ you Know Conor Benn is going to try & sell that as antoher win against an undefeated fighter who came to win. I don't see anything special about this kid, lots of people thought he looked much better in his last fight but the poor chap he was fighting had no defence and only knew how to throw arm punches, the second he steps up to British level the kid will get exposed.

I dig NxtGEN as a concept, I think it's a decent idea. I'd rather they all push over tin cans on one collective show than wasting time on a 'proper' show as well, not that it's made it less frequent on main events.

Okolie is fighting the guy Dubois beat in his 2nd fight. Dubois has rightly had it pointed out that his comp thus far has been lacklustre, although at 19 he is way less developed than most boxers. Okolie is an Olympian ffs, why can't he be put in with someone like Isaac Chamberlain now?

 

I dont mind the idea... I think Hearn is in a tough spot, he has a huge stable and alot of fighters that are new to the pro game and inexperienced so think the idea works well, its more a case of making sure that they are fighting the right guys and not just complete knock over jobs.

Someone mentioned the Chamberlain fight or Okolie... I dont think Hearn will be in any rush to make that fight since they are both his fighters it will probably at some point next year and they will push it like the AJ/DW fight... bit of a grudge match I like the Camacho fight for Okolie.

 

Its great for journeymen to make a bit of money and get exposure for future bookings.
I have a lot of respect for journeymen after recently reading the book. Great stuff

 

At least these guys are fighting, not just talking about fighting. Far too many inactive diva's in boxing these days.

 

Good conceptI enjoyed first one, Hearn admitted Newcastle one the matching below par, this one looks a bit better. Its a good way of building kids up in my opinion as long as a few competitive fights on

 

What does a young kid learn from knocking over a total bum with the first decent punch he lands.

 

It's not just that. You get the Journeyman who are durable so are pretty much heavy bag work for 6-8 rounds. That is called a learning fight!

I hate these kind of shows. It does nothing to develop the fighters and just used as a way to have some fake unbeaten record and con people.

Why can't these Olympians actually face people with a bit of skill? They have been fighting skilled opponents for years!
