Been reading a book that states. In 1928 Carnera opponent Leon Sebillo was matched against Primo for 1,000 francs and that Leon See ,Carnera's manager gave Sebillo an extra 500 francs to throw the fight and that Sebillo left his chin open so that Carnera could tag him with a right.Which Primo duly did.
Leon See declared that at least 28 of Carnera's opponents up to Dec 1930 were fixed.
For Joe Thomas Carnera got 3000 francs,See states he took half of it and gave it to Thomas to"take it easy and go down in the 3rd rd."
See said Carnera's debut against Big Boy Peterson was fixed with Peterson agreeing to take the count in the 1st rd.
Elzear Rioux was next it was arranged for him to take a dive in the 1st rd he obediently obliged.Carnera stood over him, shouting for him to get up.The Illinois AC suspended Rioux and fined him$1000 for" play acting unbecoming to fights." Roy Ace Clark refused to follow the script and was giving Carnera all sorts of problems for 5 rds until back in his corner he was shown a weapon .Clark succumbed 30 seconds into the 6th.
Leon Bombo Chevalier would not play ball with the Carnera circus,he cut Carnera;s eye and belted him with right hands, over his low left.Chevalier dropped Cranera in the 6th buit was now handicapped from having resin rubbed in his eyes between the 5th and 6th rds still full of fight his, corner threw in the towel against his protests. Chevalier took a swing at Bob perry his second as the fight was stopped.
Ricardo Bertazollo was too proud to take a splash so his manager Aldo Linz slit his eyebrow with a razor and covered it with Vaseline.tko for Carnera.

Just thought I'd add this to the legend of The Ambling Alp.

ps There is no suggestion that Carnera was aware of any of this.

Leon See is clearly not a reliable source.

The fact that the Illinois AC suspended Rioux isn't reliable either?

Of course it is a compelling piece of evidence, but still one that leaves room for interpretation.

If Carnera had a fixed career, and only started to participate in legitimate fights at the world stage, and somehow still became the champion, then he might be the greatest of all time.

Getting zero real professional experience, getting flung into the world stage, and becoming champion?
If that's normal, so is snorting cocaine off of hookers ass cracks during high speed police chases.

Set ups as in overmatched fighters with no ambition being brought in is one thing pre-arranged fixes is another or don't you think so?

We have the testimony of his former manager,we have the quotes from his then manager Bill Duffy to Paul Gallico, we have boxers being suspended and having their purses withheld and we have Carnera himself saying when asked about the book The Harder They Fall which was based on his career,[ even to the cut being made and the Vaseline being smeared over it] saying," it is all true ,but there is much more I could have told them if they had asked" .We have his children saying," Papa didnt know the fights were fixed, he was innocent".Now what else do you want a sworn affidavit?

Not all of his fights were fixed but a large percentage were . You keep burying your head in the sand because the narrative doesn't jive with your opinion ,in 20 years time you'll still be as ignorant on boxing as you are now!

Carnera isn't the scape goat, the mob behind him are and so they should be.
