Gennady Golovkin vs Sugar Ray Robinson but welter version

Golovkin , Robinson is the greatest welterweight and the greatest pound for pound fighter in history. But he'd have a hard time with GGG at 160 pounds

 

My opinion too. There's a number of middles imo that beat him !

Lets see golovkin fight 1/10th the class of opposition Jake did in the number of fights jake had and then get back to me on comparisons. Golovkin hasnt fought anybody yet. Im not even sure if the guy can fight and hes 35. How is he any different from guys like tut jackson and lamar clark who had glossy but ridiculously padded records?

Robinson would have kicked Gennady's ass.

 

Lamotta was put off his feet only once. Against a light heavyweight. GGG has never fought a light heavyweight. Nardico stopped guys who were 220 lbs.

GGG couldn't do much to close off the ring against Jacobs. Lamotta consistently gave Ray Robinson, a master boxer, fits.

He landed 231 punches on him. Not bad for somebody that you allege couldn't close him off.

 

His peak was and there's no doubt about it.

Excepting his loss to Turpin he was miles past peak by the time he was losing to Middleweights. He came straight back and avenged this via stoppage for the title. He then defended the title twice before challenging Maxim for his title at 175 and quitting boxing for 3 years. When he came back he was in his mid thirties.

When he lost to Turpin he was 128-1-2 going in. Pretty hard to hold one off day against him at that stage particularly given he came back to instantly avenge it.

He was regularly fighting bigger guys when he was a welter, including wins over LaMotta. He would give Triple G all he could handle even weighing 147.

 

Wouldn't welterweight be too light for Golovkin?
I reckon there's a reason he's fighting at MW.

 

So we are matching a 170 pound Golovkin against a 145 pound Robinson.

Such is Robinson's greatness he has a shot here, but he's giving up 25 pounds to a killer puncher who is durable and smart. Golovkin isn't some cave man, he has a great jab and knows his power and strength is his x factor, he works unorthodox angles too. There is a real possibility of Sugar Ray being knocked out, especially in a first meeting.

So I say in a trilogy. Golovkin takes two as there's just too much fire power for the younger Robinson. Robinson likely outboxes him at least once.
