One little point to make. I'm not really one to be sceptical about science, but I would be a little bit wary of the data so far. When you want a reliable independent study done, you normally need to commission independent experts. Now the UFC has a vested interest in showing it is safe, well at least safer than boxing, because when you have a brand that is worth upwards of $4bn, that is going to zero pretty quickly if MMA ever got banned. The trouble is when you commission someone to do a study on your behalf, they aren't strictly independent any more. You've probably heard the phrase "everyone has a price". Also there maybe problems with sampling sizes, I don't know, I'd need to look more closely at the data. Basically, in summary, I think I'd want to see quite a lot of studies before I draw any firm conclusions on whether or not MMA is safer than boxing (or at least has less brain injuries).
Byrd gave McGregor every chance, but McGregor wasn't firing back and was laying defenseless on the ropes. Byrd could've stopped the fight way earlier. Byrd also wouldn't let Jacobs get up because he laid on the floor for too long. This content is protected
These MMA guys always say how boxing is soft because the gloves are "pillows", a small 40 year old with brittle hands had their best guy wobbling all around the ring like he was drunk. Could you imagine if canelo hit him in the jaw with those 8oz gloves? He would be put into a coma. Boxing is a savage sport, its 2 guys clubbing each other on the head with fists. Its really bad for your brain, only the toughest can survive in this type of combat. When you get rocked in boxing there is no going to the ground to stall or pushing against the fence, you have to plant your feet and fire back or you'll get stopped.
Well said, could't have put it better. The wannabe tough guys in TTIA talk a good game, yet their hearts are as soft as jelly.
Yep, prime example was Bisping v Henderson for me. Lying unconscious on the floor and taking a full on punch with all the body weight coming down off Hendo....Brain damage stuff. If you can't stand in boxing the fights stopped. If you can't stand and are unconscious in mma u can take multiple well timed power shots before the ref can get them off

was a good stoppage.. if there was 8 seconds left in round then maybe let it ride. I wish more boxers would take the knee so they can keep fighting, COnor should've done this.
Conor wanted out, he was looking up at the clock wishing for it to be over. He wanted no more. There is a reason he chose the easier path through TTIA than go through the hard knocks of working his way up like a true professional in boxing.
Agreed, what I saw looked like one of those videos you sometimes see on youtube where like a sixty year old grandfather who used to be a boxer spars a thirty year old who just took up the sport. The old guy can't execute like an elite guy since he has no athleticism, but his form is way better than the novice who he completely tools. This content is protected
