Canelo can't punch. He can hit hard enough to hurt glass jawed frauds like Kirkland. And the whole Khan thing was pathetic. Good job laying out the glassiest jaw the LWW division has seen in a long time. By the way Canelo is a MW...

Canelo has no power. He can't hurt Golovkin. Even though GGG is past prime he will stop him. The only thing that's different now is GGG will take more rounds to do it now than he would have years ago.

You're logic isn't working for me. He can't punch because he knocked out Khan and Kirkland?

Matthew Hatton and Chris Van Heerdan both waxed lyrical about his power and said that it's the hardest they've ever been hit, either in a fight or in sparring and they've sparred a lot of fighters and ones that were bigger than them too.

Slava Shabranskyy said Canelo is hitting like a LHW and Ryan Rhodes said he hits really hard but he isn't the biggest puncher he's fought. Hatton and Rhodes both said he's extremely physically strong though.

I think Canelo can hit pretty hard but GGG hits a lot harder and the list of fighters who've waxed lyrical about GGG's power, whether they are smaller or much bigger than him, is extensive.

Thought Magic Hatton said Brook hits harder than Canelo, and we saw Brook's power not making a dent in GGG

Canelo can bang but only when guys are coming for him. Then he can stand his ground and trade hard shots.

He is not good at coming after a guy to knock him out. That's why he never got a chance against Mayweather.

He probably did say that but he said it was Canelo in a program I saw the other day.

    How hard does Canelo punch?

''Er.. he hits very hard. He does hit very hard. For me, it was more the strength I struggled with.. he caught me with some good shots in the fight. Never really hurt me in the fight, I've got to be honest. But I was a fighter, I'm not saying I was the best fighter in the world, far from it, but I had a very good chin. I could take a very good shot. But of all the guys I've fought over the years, all the guys I've been I've been in with and sparred, it's definitely the hardest I've ever been hit. A real powerful puncher. But for me, I can't emphasize as much at just how physically strong he is. Just incredible. Unbelievable.''

There is no evidence Canelo has 160 power or can handle 160 power.

There is evidence Canelo has avoided 160 for years.

Having to be forced by public opinion to fight someone, and handing over to him the belt considered most prestigious in Mexico, is not a good sign.

Khan, Smith and the corpse of Chavez Jr. were certainly no preparation for GGG.

All the talk about Canelo being a great boxer is also questionable. He was outboxed by Trout, Lara, Mayweather, Cotto, Khan and Liam Smith. Everyone knows his footwork is poor.

Canelo's workrate and stamina have never been great.

    I could go on.

He just needs to hit hard enough to get Golovkin's respect and prevent Golovkin from walking through him. I think he hits hard enough to do that.

I also feel he can keep GGG honest for a few rounds as Big Red has some great body shots and uppercuts. The bigger question is how long and much of the snap can he, Canelo, withstand from GGG when the shoe is on the other foot.

I feel David the Mule and Danny bang way harder and sharper than Canelo but getting hit by a pro is still going to take its toll on any opponent

I would say that Canelo's not a heavy-handed, concussive puncher. I can't see Khan lasting more than 1 round w/ Golovkin. He went what? 6 with Canelo? But Canelo does have snap and above average power due to the speed and angles. I'd rate his power a 7/8 out of 10.

He doesn't have to hit like a monster, just catch Golovkin with timing with punches he doesn't expect. Obviously won't be easy but tremendous power isn't his key to victory. And I'm not a Canelo fan.

To 'balance' out what I've heard former Canelo opponents say about how hard he hits

'Ola Afolabi said to Sky Ringside “I think it’s going to be a knockout. The guy [Golovkin] hits incredibly hard. I’ve been in the ring with heavyweights, cruiserweights, light heavyweights, and I get in the ring with this kid and every time he hits me, I say whoa!''

Ryan Coyne (former CW now LHW)

''He’s a ****** beast,” said Coyne, a 20-0 cruiserweight prospect who has recently dropped down to light heavyweight. “He’s been running guys out of here. Nobody under 175 pounds will spar with him.''

“I’ve sparred with heavyweights who can punch, including Mariusz Wach and Mike Perez, nobody has hit me as hard as Golovkin. His power is out of this world.”

''I spent my summer up in Big Bear training with Gennady Golovkin who is emerging as the most murderous puncher in the boxing. I watched former champions, light heavies, cruisers, and even heavies get sent home.''

    David Imoesiri HW

“The dude can hit, I’m still getting used to it,” said Imoesiri, who like Coyne, is delightfully bright and articulate. “It’s crazy. I sparred with [undefeated WBA heavyweight beltholder] Alexander Povetkin and he never hurt me like this guy.''

“I must have done 50 rounds while in camp with Povetkin and it was three and half weeks before he hit me with something that made me hold on. With Golovkin I was ready to get out of the ring 45 seconds into our first round of sparring. He hit me with two lefts to the body in the identical spot and had me doubled over. I got through it but it’s hard to defend against 6-inch punches with that much pop. He backs me into a corner with just a jab.

“And it seems like he does it effortlessly.”

''The guy hits like a hammer. I tried everything, but it did not work. You have to give him credit, because he had a good handle on the situation and it was an honor to meet him in the ring. Even though I lost every round, I wanted to fight on. [Early on] it seemed to me that I was resistant to punches, but eventually they caught up with me. For each subsequent start, I went out out with another plan, trying to surprise him, but he is really great," Proksa said.

"I have never felt that type of power anywhere, not in sparring or anywhere."

I agree. The main question in this fight is whether Alvarez can take Golovkin's shots. If he can, he will win. I think he can and will win a decision.

This is most likely true. Golovkin will probably not be walking thru Canelo and therefore, it should be a fight that lasts beyond the 8th round.

I think Canelo can certainly take the punches for a while but for how long? He'll have to make GGG miss quite a bit and land his counter shots, which is certainly possible.

Not picking on you cslb, I just think your comments are pretty much spot on, except the result, as I see GGG winning by late stoppage or decision.

Such a great style match up. Very close to being a 50/50 fight.

lol I know you are not "picking on me" and this certainly is a hard fight to call for me. I think Alvarez will work Golovkin's body to slow him down in the later rounds and win a clear decision. Your outcome is more probable than mine but I just get the feeling that Alvarez is going to win this fight. Let's hope it is a great fight that lets no one down.
