Listened to an interview with a Ukrainian correspondent for a YT boxing channel earlier. He said a few interesting things.

On this stupid notion that Usyk doesn't have his footwork anymore since he parted ways with Bashir and that it was actually Bashir who taught him how to move.

Firstly, Bashir did not teach Usyk to move.

He said that Usyk didn't use his footwork in his previous two fights because he was trying to fight more aggressively to impress the American fans. He wanted to be more of a brawler so he could score a stoppage because he wants to become a star. Had he boxed like he usually does, more safety first and technical, the fans would've been bored. He said this is the reason why Usyk looked sloppy.

I remember Steve Kim saying a while back that Egis Klimas had told him that all his fighters (or at least the Ukrainian ones like Usyk, Gvozdyk, and Loma) had been instructed to try and go for the stoppage/KO when fighting over in the US so that they could make a good impression.

He said Usyk won't employ those kind of tactics in the CW tournament when facing savage punchers like Gassiev or Kudryashov should their paths cross.

Apparently Gvozdyk said that Usyk never allows him to land a good shot on him in sparring and that he will only allow that to happen if there's something to win.

The game plan for the Hunter fight was devised by Pama Loma but that it was kind of pointless to employ it because he was not in Usyk's corner for the fight and therefore could not give him directions to make the correct adjustments depending on the adjustments Hunter made during the fight or if he employed a different game plan to what they had been expecting.

Apparently Papa Loma was irritated that Usyk didn't go to the body more to try and break Hunter down. Obviously Usyk did really start pounding the hell out of Hunter's gut later on in the fight, in at least one round he went body punching crazy and to great effect, but I wonder if that was after Papa Loma had got word to him to do so?
