Floyd never bet on a 10th round knockout. The rumor is that he bet the under. So, in that case... it makes even less sense that he wouldn't have tried to knock McGregor out as fast as possible. Besides that, he was making 300 million for that fight... do you really think that Floyd would try to fight a certain way, based on a bet that he might win a few hundred thousand on at the most? Are you really that detached from reality? Look, I'm not here to change your mind. I fully realize that some people are blind fans and create their own reality. It's really easy for me. All that I need to do is watch a fight and take it for what it was. I don't need to sit around and come up with conspiracy theories of how one fighter purposely didn't try, carried another fighter, purposely got punched in the head, purposely made himself look worse while making the other guy look better, etc... All of that nonsense is insane. Stuff like that doesn't happen in the real world. World class fighters don't act like that in a fight. They are out there trying to win, at all times. Btw, I predicted Mayweather to knock McGregor out in the 5th round. So, it isn't as if I'm trying to justify my prefight prediction. I'm willing to admit that I was wrong, and that Conor was much better than I thought he would be in a boxing ring.
Why are you guys arguing that McGregor needs to prove himself now against another boxer? I don't see anyone on here claiming that McGregor is the best boxer in the world. I personally don't even feel like he should box anymore. He's almost 30 years old, there is no reason, other than money, to make a big career move now. He's an MMA fighter, an all around fighter, not a boxer. Did you even see the fight? Your description of the fight really isn't accurate. Also, he lost the most embarrassing way possible? Really? Going 10 rounds, winning some of the rounds, and getting stopped on his feet without going down is the most embarrassing way that he could of lost? Wow, that an interesting point of view. I personally feel like it would have been much more embarrassing if he had come out, threw crazy punches as Floyd made him miss wildly and then Floyd dusted him up and knocked him out brutally in the first round. So, once again... I'm having a difficult time understanding the logic behind your statements.
Having barely posted on this message board in several years... I nearly forgot how out of touch so many posters on this site are. You really believe things like, Floyd purposely missed punches, and purposely got countered? Are you kidding me? Guys, we are talking about two world class fighters. It really isn't that surprising that one guy had more success than most boxing fans thought that he would. A lot of boxing fans sort of live in a glass bubble. Boxing is just one, very limited aspect of fighting, guys. Nobody here is a bigger boxing fan than I am. However, I'm also a fight fan... and I also know how to use logic. In an MMA fight, you can punch, kick, knee, elbow, clinch fight, takedown, throw, submit, choke, manipulate joints, etc.. Boxing is the most limited fighting sport in the world. I love it, but it is what it is. Of course, someone who trains in only boxing should be a better boxer than someone who trains to be good in every aspect of fighting. However, that doesn't mean that some of those guys aren't really good with their hands, or that they couldn't have any success in a boxing ring. Obviously, McGregor just showed us this. If you think that Mayweather just embarrassed McGregor... I would like for you to entertain the thought of what McGregor would do to Mayweather in an MMA bout. I can assure you that you wouldn't see MMA fans sitting around on message boards trying to defend the honor of McGregor and MMA afterward. They wouldn't need to.
First of all, there is no possible way that McGregor landed 111 punches. I've watched the fight numerous times and the majority of his shots landed short and the ones that did land with the exception of a handful at best were arm punches. Honestly, his most effective punches were the illegal "hammer fist" rabbit shots. And I don't think McGregor won any round outside of round 1 as he was clearly frustrated in round 2, already resorting to illegal shots because he couldn't land clean on Floyd. It's also merely speculation to assume that McGregor could beat Floyd at range. How often have we said that Floyd couldn't do this or Floyd couldn't do that, and then he turns around and does exactly what we said he couldn't do. In the first round I think Floyd played defensively just to prove to McGregor that he could beat him both ways. Not even 30 seconds into the fight, Mayweather was coming forward, clearly indicating that his game plan all along was to go forward. There was nothing McGregor did in the first round that would have shocked Mayweather into completely changing his strategy. It was embarrassing because of what McGregor said in pre-fight interviews. McGregor convinced plenty of people that he had some sort of mythical power and would knock Floyd out within one round. In numerous interviews he said this. He also said that the first loser is the one that takes a step back. McGregor made it out as if he wouldn't take a single step back and completely bulldoze Floyd, as he was the smaller man, supposedly incapable of hurting McGregor. Literally nothing McGregor said came true. In fact the opposite occurred. Not only was McGregor's mythical power no where to be seen, but Mayweather proved to be the harder puncher as well. Mayweather also dominated McGregor in the clinch, which is supposed to be an MMA specialty. How could it not be embarrassing to be walked down and stopped by a guy who last knocked down and stopped somebody was against maybe Ndue or some guy that I can't even spell his name correctly that stood up to far more punishment than McGregor did. McGregor is simply a bully with no heart. He will get smashed against Diaz in the third fight and will fade into obscurity. If McGregor was smart, he would fight somebody he could easily beat in MMA and then challenge the winner of GGG vs Canelo, get steam rolled and get the second biggest pay day of his career...and then fade into obscurity.
I just want to know how it's not embarrassing when McGregor's entire plan was predicated on using his strenght, size, power, and MMA skillset to knock out a tiny man that he didn't respect in 1 round, only to get walked down and treated like a scared little girl by said tiny man. I mean, where is McGregor's heart? He talked all that ****, but he had no heart. That was the worst way to win. Of course the media white washed the whole thing and made McGregor out to look like a hero. I think it's BS. I think he's a bully with no heart.
Since when do we really take what a fighter says before a fight that seriously? It's called hyping and promoting a fight. If McGregor doesn't have any heart, I would love to see what you would look like in a boxing ring for the first time against the best technical boxer in the world. If Conor didn't have any heart he could have easily looked for a soft place to fall at any point in that fight. Especially since in your estimation (which is ridiculous), Conor lost rounds 2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9 before being stopped in the 10th. That's a long time for a guy with no heart to be losing without going down, or quitting in his corner. It's statements like that which prove exactly how bias you are when it comes to this topic. Notice, I haven't bashed Floyd a single time. Do you know why? Because I don't even see this as a negative on Floyd. That's what you can't wrap your head around, and that's why you guys are all so out of sorts about this. Mayweather won, he doesn't need excuses. He was confronted with a tough task, much tougher than expected, and he overcame the challenge and won the fight. He deserves full credit for it. I for one, think that it makes Floyd look better in my eyes. I don't think that he lost rounds because he isn't as great as people thought. I think that Conor won rounds because Conor was better than people thought. Sidenote: Conor did in fact say to watch their feet at the beginning of the fight. Mayweather said that he would come to the center of the ring and not move backward. So, Conor said, ok... watch our feet. That we will see who takes the first step back. He says that he will come to the center of the ring, and I'm saying that I will do the same thing. The first guy who takes a step back loses. Floyd came to the center, then when confronted by Conor's opening aggression, immediately backpedaled to the the ropes. So, I'm not sure why you brought that up. I expected Conor to back up and and use his range. That's how he fights. Being an MMA figher, doesn't automatcally make him an inside brawler in boxing. That's not Conor's style.
I realise Conor has an appealing personality to some and that a lot of people are inspired by his rags to gucci mink story but after all the big talk from him and his fans, his team, dana white and the mma world prior to the fight it was both satisfying and hilarious to watch lil Floyd go all Monzon on the overhyped leprachaun for those of us on the other side. I can't even imagine what ConorFan would be like had he actually been able to hang with Mayweather for real or worse, KO him by some miracle lightning strike of good fortune. Props to the guy for making all that lolly by hoodwinking his gullible fans (also me but only because my gf ordered it which shows what kind of people this 'fight' was for) and a lot of them lost money by believing his hype (not for the 1st nor last time probably) - his record in mma isn't even anything special, if he wasn't a white, irish gobshyte committing fashion crimes almost nobody would even know his name. His fans should have turned on him for another quit job but they seem too enamoured with his manufactured roguish charm seemingly. Obviously the guy is not my cup of tea and I am clearly biased against him but I am no Floyd fan either and watching this live with money on the line I was never even slightly concerned, even in round 1, that May was in any danger whatsoever. McGregor looked so ungainly and akward, like a fish out of water, even though Floyd did zero early it was obvious nothing short of a miracle was in order for TeamConor. I just don't see how someones impression of McG improved after watching him versus Floyd, he did nothing. Also, his walk out was cringe-level to match Floyd feat. Beibz as was the uniform of tuxedos worn by his yes-men/team.
All of my boxing fan friends, as well as MMA fan friends... as well as fight fans in general (like myself)... were all basically saying the same thing before this fight. I honestly didn't have one person telling me that they felt Conor would win the fight. Which explains why you are seeing that people's impression of Conor improved after watching that fight. That's because, he did better than most fight fans (boxing and MMA) expected him to do. Makes sense, doesn't it?
No we're not. McFraud isn't anywhere near to be a world class fighter in BOXING and he never will be. He may be a big fish in that small pond called UFC, but in boxing he is absolute garbage. Mayweather toyed with this clown and knocked him out as soon as he chose to. This so beyond obvious I cannot believe anyone would suggest otherwise, unless they are a UFC fanboy trying to make McJoke out to be anything other than the limited cage fighter he is. Thankfully, Mayweather sent him packing back to the low rent district of sports. Hopefully we in boxing never hear from him again.
Watching ringside version looks like clear Floyd win. But watched showtime version again today and Conor did excellent. He could have a boxing career if he switched permanently and built his way up. Doubt he'd win a title but he has great speed, range control, reflexes and footwork.
conor totally outboxed him a mma guy outboxing the so called best bóxer in the world. hes lucky conor tired out ha
"Hes gonna get tired" "you can start getting to him in the 4th" "no big moves he's gonna fade" Comments from Floyd & corner at the end of R1. https://m.imgur.com/UbRM3us < low
