I am a big Joe Louis fan and I have to admit that a prime Riddick Bowe would be a dangerous opponent for Louis. I think that if Louis stopped Bowe, Louis would probably have had to come through some close calls.

I think its kind of far fetched to say the best of Riddick Bowe is an easy fight for Louis.

Exactly. I don't doubt Louis could win this fight but it's a damn dangerous one.

    Not easy, but do-able.

I can just imagine the connect % Joe would have against this guy and that defense. And having Chappie to probe holes in that defense & footwork for like 8 weeks & those pre-fight preparations of his. Possibly the best ever. I think Louis' connect % would be like 75% or so or literally the same as if he fought Tex Cobb. The compubox guy would end up with carpel tunnel syndrome.

Going to be awful awful tough beating Joe Louis if you are such an easy to hit fighter.

Going to be quite tough beating a much bigger Riddick Bowe when the likes of James Braddock put you on your arse.

Sorry Zad. Just reread that and it came over a bit aggressive on my part. No offence intended. We have a slghtly different opinion on a hypothetical boxing match up. It's not like you've slapped my mother. I'll wind my neck in.

I only favor Ali over Louis in a series of 3. And even then, he loses 1! As a fan of Bowe, I'd be rooting for him to prove me wrong but I highly doubt it.

By that logic it really befuddles me how Max Baer wasn't able to knock down Louis. After all, Baer was a far bigger puncher than Braddock...

How come in every Louis thread it seems that the only standard required to beat Louis is being a bigger puncher than Jimmy Braddock?

lowest common denominator! But wouldn't it be funny if Braddock beat the lazy slovenly Bowe just as he did he doppelganger from the 1930s named Baer? Could happen to the overconfident clown.

It took an ATG in Holyfield fighting one of the best fights of his career to beat Bowe, and even then by a narrow margin. Not sure how Braddock beats him, even if he is over-confident.

Maybe if Bowe forgot most of what he knew about boxing? I've never seen prime Bowe look nearly as disinterested as Baer did in the Braddock fight though.

If you punch harder than Braddock you should beat Louis?
That's like saying if you box a little better than Art Card, you should beat Bowe

Louis would destroy Bowe like he did to Baer or Carnera.
He would have complete control of distance on the outside with his athleticism, and he would always be a step ahead with his far superior reflexes.
Bowes's jab might prolong the event a few extra rounds, but once Louis hits him with that first mule kick blow, Bowe starts to fall apart until he eventually crumbles.

Lot's of people here grew up watching Bowe when their testosterone levels were at their highest, so be wary of rose colored nostalgic glasses.

Blimey rez. You're going to open a whole can of whoopass making a statement like that with your fondness for the fighters of yesteryear! Even our dog's gone behind the settee and won't come out till I close this page!

    Lol and that's the irony.
I have no nostalgic attachment to any of them from the past, except maybe Ali.
