Andre Ward targets Frank Buglioni (declined) or Callum Johnson (HBO blocked it) for his next fight

lol.... atleast it would show hes a true champion fighting real guys instead of trying to fight 2 british guys who havn't done anything or ever looked good.

What fighter takes 3 fights with monster punchers in a row?

Watched Buglioni, he's pretty good. A contender not a journeyman. I'd say he's about a half-level below Barrera. Not a puncher, he's an accumulater but he has great stamina.

And Beterbiev has a fight scheduled, and Bivol has been in with nobody.

 

He's already proven that! Ducked nobody, moved up with the intention of fighting the top monster of the 175 division. You may disagree with the decision of the fights, but you can't question Ward's heart, not after his fights with Kovalev.

Got it!l lol Yeah , a loss will hurt Wards P4P status, but a win won't do much to enhance it. Really not a whole lot to gain from beating those guys.

 

Some would argue he was great after the super6... since then he has beaten dawson and moved up to 175 taken down a good fighter in barrera and won a v close fight over the p4p 3 kovalev who he then rematched and stopped.

His earnt the right for a stay busy fight after doing what all you said he could not.

 

lol his job as champion of the division is to fight the top fighters or retire and vacate his belts. not cherrypick his OPP.

 

I don't doubt his heart at all- whether or not people like his method is one thing, but you can't knock the grit Andre brings to the table.

I used to play devil's advocate on Andre when he was inactive, fighting nobodies, and making crazy demands, but the dude's fixed most of that. He fights more, he stepped his comp level back up, so playing a firm hand at the negotiating table doesn't bug me near as much as before.

My annoyance with someone like Bug stems solely from the fact he's fighting in one of the best divisions in the game right now, and that kind of defense adds nothing to any kind of legacy he'd want to build there. But, if he's more concerned with P4P than building a legacy at 175, more power to him. Just not my preference. I don't want to see things deteriorate to what they have for Stevenson, whose defenses have really ripped fans off from some great, meaningful fights.

 

hard to enhance his standing much at the moment. idk where the mythical standings are atm, but he cannot possibly move up much.

 

I don't see why not. If your allowed to punch some ones meat and veg in to a puree, then I cant see whats the matter with a punch thrown when the bells still ringing !

 

Cant like Ward, Dont like Ward. But he just faced the divisions top man twice in a row i dont mind an easy pick after a couple of toughys. But if Buglioni is the level Ward is looking at dont expect any interest or excitment from Boxing fans, get on with it and wake us up when your next fighting somebody good.

 

But according to Virgil Hunter, HBO forced Ward to move up to 175 when he could still make 168 and should have stayed at 168. Also didn't he think it was okay for Chad Dawson to step down to 168.
