This is showing up as confirmed on boxrec. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/725709 What are people's thoughts on this fight? Vaz is very experienced, I am surprised they have gone for him. Can't argue with the quality of opponent though, they are clearly confident. Thoughts?
Depends on Vasquez at 140. Has he slowed down? Doesn't punch hard but man he's so awkward in his movement. Fair play to Josh & team is this is accurate they've took it. Easier 'experienced' gatekeepers out there would have been acceptable. Kinda thought when Joe Hughes has 140 British eliminator signed & it didn't involve Taylor they would bypass British Titles.
This is the kind of matchmaking I like to see, Taylor will learn so much from someone like Miguel. There has been some horrible matchmaking recently for the British prospects.
Agreed. I think Taylor is being moved more at U.S prospects pace & with amateur background, that's the right way. If he was with Warren, he'd be on 8 rounders just now. This would be a great test & if he wins he's on the cusp of a World Title shot.
With Crawford vacating you would surely think Taylor is 2-3 fights away from a title shot, my only concern is the promotional shenanigans with Cyclone. Do they have enough clout to get him into position? If he was with Hearn it would be virtually guaranteed. Agreed on Warren, look at his matchmaking for Dubois and Yarde. Just pathetic.
Warren has always been slow with talent. Zelfa Barrett, Jack Catterall etc all moved slow considering how they are rated. Yes, I think they have the clout. They work with Lou Di Bella & Golden Boy in U.S I believe, & his rankings are moving nicely. I think they'll aim for Summer title shot, just a hunch. Potential for three fights before that all going well, more pro rounds etc & let him off leash.
Really good fight. He'll learn a lot from this and assuming he wins will get him much closer to a world title fight.
Looks like they want Taylor to experience more rounds. It would be a statement if Taylor knocks out Vasquez. Vasquez is very awkward and very tough. Don't think he's ever been stopped.
I remeber when Vasquez was LW champ, horrible style to come up against and he was a solid champion. I felt he got robbed against Micky Bey when he lost his title. Good fight for Taylor at this stage.
Sorry for not adding link or article but I've just read a translation where Miguel Vasquez confirms he will travel to Scotland to take on Josh Taylor. Seriously, Cyclone have thrown him a toughie here. Winnable for sure but very, very hard to look good. Vasquez fights with Argenis Mendez/Mickey Bey were horrid but importantly he doesn't lose clearly, all fights close regardless of cards.
