I don't like Golovkin, I'm not a fan of his or his fanatics. I had him winning 115-113. I had a stretch mid/late in the fight where he put back to back to back rounds together. That being said, there were a few swing rounds so 114-114 is perfectly fine, even 115-113 for Alvarez is conceivable. Any of those 3 scores are acceptable and not a robbery. 118-110 is insane, I'd say more insane than Floyd Canelo 114-114 by CJ Ross. 118-110 would have you believe Canelo won 10 rounds and that is ridiculous, utterly ridiculous. A draw which is acceptable is going to be overshadowed by a dubious scorecard and that's bad for boxing. Takeaways: Golovkin won because of the jab. Stretches where nothing happened and winging power shots didn't land clean from either, Golovkin consistently and professionally touched Canelo with the jab. Canelo has an excellent chin (self explanatory). Canelo's combinations where great when he used them and he has a higher ceiling than Golovkin. I'm not sure Golovkin can do anything more or different, there's quite a few things that Canelo could do differently in a rematch. Good fight overshadowed by a **** scorecard. That's boxing
You gotta beat the champ to BE the champ- Author Unknown GGG had to KO Canelo or knock him down to win. Believe me if Canelo knocked GGG down he would be unified 160 champion tonight.
My prediction was that Canelo would Land slighly more power punches but G would Win by landing the telling blows and especially landing far more jabs. I think I was on Point.
GGG could have went to the body like he usually does... that would have won him the fight.. not sure what the strategy was in not going to the body.. it will be the difference maker in the rematch
Canelo was lucky to win two round. He pranced like that pony he rode in the 24/7 episode for 2 minutes of every round. Then he had to Cajones to say I won 8 rounds easy.
Canelo landed cleaner headshots and body shots. Golovkin outlanded him and was the ring general. That's how you get a draw.
The OP is right on Point also. If the scorecards were 115-113 Golovkin and 114x2, I could live with it and would be looking forward to the rematch. Now, all I can think is NSAC really didn't want Canelo to lose.
anywhere 8-4 for GGG to 6-6 is ok with me. At 7-5 Canelo you're really making an extra effort to give him the close rounds. I don't see how GGG could possibly have only won 2 rounds. I don't get it.
No it wasn't. That was exactly my scorecard even though a couple of rounds could have easily have gone to Canelo. Fight was close, no domination by either fighter.
Disagree. Giving the first three and last three to Canelo is fine. In round 8 Canelo landed a beautiful counter uppercut and some nice bodyshots which could've stolen the round. Canelo landed the cleaner punches in round 9. So that's 8 rounds to choose your 7 to give to Cenelo.
