Lets step away from all the negativity about the scores, I had it 116-112 or 117-111 golovkin. Lets talk about Golovkin's chin instead, I mean seriously I am not overexaggerating when saying Golovkin has got to be in top 5 chins of all time after this fight, he was caught with some massive bombs from Canelo, punches which would knock most fighters out cold, Golovkin didn't even flinch after any of Canelo's bombs, he kept walking him down, in his previous fights, like Kell Brook, he got hit with some bombs as well but I thought that maybe Brook has no power to hurt Golovkin but we all know Canelo has amazing power and he caught GGG with some very clean and powerful shots, I mean I am amazed seriously, you all keep saying GGG deteriorated, but in my opinion he fought a smart fight other than the first three rounds, lets remember Canelo is a world class boxer and it's not easy to knock him out and I saw a lot of people saying GGG lost the fight because he didn't knock him out, or that GGG has only himself to blame for the draw, he won by 4 rounds and he has nobody to blame but either bookies, Fishnets De la Hoya or just an inept judge, most likely being the 2nd scenario, she will waker up with 100 grand on her account and we will have the trilogy that Fishnets wanted.
He has a great chin no doubt but I can see hairline fractures in it and I think it's on the verge of cracking, the little signs are there if you look hard enough.
Not really. He got bashed about a bit by a former light-middle who can punch, but is not a devastating puncher. Compare this to some of the ridiculous feats Jake LaMotta demonstrated, some of the bombs Dick Tiger shipped, some of the epic punchers Kid Gavilan met in 140 fights without ever being stopped, the ludicrous lazer-guided missiles Hagler swallowed against Hearns(Hearns is another fighter moving up but certainly a better puncher than Alvarez), Toney getting hit all the way up at heavy, etc. etc. etc. Calling Golovkin's one of the top 5 chins in history is totally indefensible with the evidence we have to hand.
He has great 1 punch knock out power, and he hit Golovkin with a lot of those one punch knockout punched and they didn't even faze ggg
Hagler nor Hearns met anybody with GGG's power. I think GGG could take bombs of both Hagler and Hearns, could they take GGG's flush shots? Doubtful.
Perhaps, but there's no denying his chin is incredible. Took massive bombs from huge punchers in Stevens, Lemieux and a huge roided Jacobs and didn't flinch Saying he has an all time top 5 chin can't be proven, but there's no denying his chin is ridiculous
He doesn't hit remotely hard and Golovkin still was hesitant to walk him down. If G had an 'incredible ' chin he would have walked through everything that was thrown at him. Canelo could barely hurt Cotto , does he have the same caliber of chin? Golovkin chin is still untested against real power punchers.
You've got to put things into perspective though, the change of the weigh-in schedules throw everything out of sync. I agree with what youre saying but these things have an effect and need considering.
What's most impressive is that even the best chins, when they get hit flush, they tend to back off for a second or two, or just play it safe, Golovkin just kept walking forward, nothing fazed him. He is the Ivan Drogo of real boxing.
Unbelievable chin. Don't know exactly where it ranks, but its pure granite. As I said in another thread, his chin/power combo is incredible. That is what makes him who he is, in addition to exceptional skill and terrific conditioning. GGG is not a fluid mover. That's his one real weakness. But if he can get you in the pocket and/or line you up, you're done. And your chin will give out before his does.
He was fazed. He backed off multiple times. He never put his chin in harms way to force a stoppage victory.
