1 ) GGG won the fight. The judges were crooked. The best score cards is 8-4 or 7-3-1 ( if the IBF allowed for 10-10 rounds ) 7-5 is an acceptable score card if you give Canelo some rounds where GGG out landed him on the punch count.

Speaking of the punch count, GGG out landed Canelo in 10 of 12 rounds. It's essentially impossible for a draw under these conditions unless the opponent scored a knockdown or two, which did not happen. This is likely the most draw in a major fight since Holyfield vs Lewis. That was a long time ago,

Anyone who thinks Canelo won the fight...well few do!

2 ) A. Byrd should never judge again. 118-110. Worst major scorecard ever. A disgrace to boxing and a stain on Oscar De La Hoya promotions, who picked her.

3 ) Lost in the bad judging was it was a decent fight to watch, which is important for big nights like this. The fighters did their jobs and the fans got their monies worth in terms of the action.

4 ) GGG has visibly slowed down at age 35. Fighters with his style usually have shorter primes. 2-3 years ago, GGG likely stops Canelo.

5 ) While this should have been GGG's 18th successful middle weight title defense, he's still on 17. Up next should be Billy Saunders or someone easier, so if he wants to remain active GGG can likely pass Hopkins record.

6 ) GGG should not accept a re-match unless his promoters pick the judges, and then the fight has to happen before March 2018.

7 ) Due to the draw, years later Canelo will look better. GGG stock should go up a little for those who saw the fight.

8 ) Canelo refused to step on the scales after the initial weight in of 160 pounds. He looked over 175 pounds to me.

9 ) Both fighters have very good to excellent chins. GGG has the best chin at 160 pounds I ever saw. It seems like no punch hurts him.

10 ) Both corners I felt gave good advice.

If GGG has the best chin at 160 you ever saw, you clearly don't know who Marvelous Marvin Hagler was.

I've seen seen hagler hurt multiple times and have a far tougher night with a much lesser (Canelo would annihilate that srl) "ww" at a YOUNGER age than ggg last night.

Apply Apple's to Apple's and you'd come off as less of a hating troll than you currently do

To be fair Golovkin and Hagler are notorious for fighting small men moving up while never moving up themselves.
I never understood the psychological lie of credit that both guys get for waiting for guys like vultures and calling out guys 1 or 2 division's below while ducking guys that are calling them out above. Straight bully tactics.

The reason people gave Hagler a pass is because they disliked Leonard for some reason and wanted him to be violently beaten.
The reason people give Golovkin a pass was for the same reason. They wanted to see Mayweather get beaten by him but Floyd is no fool, trying to move up to MW. Canelo is too big to fake it at 154 and he had to move up but wasted precious time fighting BS fights when he could have been settling in fighting actual middleweights.

Both guys are full of it and the decision last night is what everyone deserved and negotiated for. Golovkin deserved to get ****ed for begging for it and Canelo deserves to get ridiculed for picking on welters forever.

GGG has never been floored, or hurt in 38 pro fight and 350 amateur fights. Punches land flush, he's just unfazed. Never saw that before at middleweight.

Hagler had an excellent chin too, but he was hurt more, and down too.

    FYI

1 ) Hagler was down before. ( Juan Roldan fight )

2 ) He had a tough fight with Monroe ( hailer's 28th pro fight ) , and lost that one.

"Willie Monroe pummeled a bleeding Marvin Hagler Tuesday night to win a unanimous dcision in a 10-round bout. Monroe, a 160-pound Philadelphian, came out strong against Hagler, a 160-pounder from Brockton, Mass., with left jabs and right hooks. In the 2nd round, Hagler suffered a nose bleed from a short left hook and a straight right hand. In the 5th, Monroe came out with three consecutive uppercuts and Hagler lost his mouthpiece and his nose started to bleed profusely. Hagler tried desperately to battle back and returned with a series of body punches. Monroe picked his opponent apart in the 7th with the jabs and the nose continued to bleed. But in the 8th, Hagler returned with rights and lefts to the body. In the 10th, Monroe took command and put too much pressure on Hagler." - United Press International

    Post-Fight Comments:

    • "From the 2nd round, I couldn't breathe. I learned a lot from Monroe and I'm still young." - Marvin Hagler
    • "I was strong, tall, slick and quick. He couldn't figure me out." - Willie Monroe

Last night's result hurt boxing and the casual are turning away in droves claiming fix fight. How do you explain 118 - 110? How do you explain NAC running to a podium to admit it was a bad score?

It is funny the May/Mac fight did more for boxing than Canelo/Golovkin. A circus fight was more legitimate than what was dubbed as the real fight.

Canelo had everything going for him and still couldn't win.

    1) The fight was 7-5 Golovkin at best, 6-6 Draw at worst.

    4) GGG hasn't so much as slowed down as he's fighting actual quality competition. It's not a coincidence that once he makes the step up that he stops looking invincible. He looked better against GGG than he did against Jacobs.

    6) As a boxing fan that's the dumbest **** I've ever heard, you should want to see those two get in the ring asap. You aren't making any money off of GGG-Canelo except for betting.

    8) Golovkin looked significantly bigger than Canelo.

I think if GGG moved up to 168 he would perform better. Making 160 is too much on his body.

More people had it 8-4 than 6-6. More people had it 7-5 than 6-6 too.

6-6 really Dago? You really believe that?! Wow, your a bad judge.

Yes--GGG has slowed down. Watch a fight of his 2-4 years ago, he was faster. You'll see it

Why should I as a fan pay to see a cooked decision again?

I had it 7-5. There are a couple of rounds that are really close where you have to match the quality of Canelo's counterpunching against Golovkin's constant pressure and less hurtful but more numerous punches. I tend to split rounds like that alternately for one fighter then another as they happen. It helps even out the bias imho.
