Both fights went the distance. Both fights had fans saying their fighter won. so which fight was tougher for GGG? Canelo or Jacobs?

I think Canelo was harder with the body punches. He took them well, but today he must be hurting.

I think they were about even in difficulty for GGG. If Jacobs didn't show as much respect in the early rounds and didn't get knocked down, he'd have won pretty convincingly. Canelo was mentally sharp from start to finish.

That said, I saw GGG clearly beating Canelo in a close contest, whereas I wouldn't have complained if the Jacobs fight was considered a draw or a slight win for Jacobs.

GGG rated Jacobs power far greater that Canelo given he was way more cautious as opposed to his usual take one to give one against Canelo...

This is what I'm trying to understand. Jacobs was knocked down, Canelo wasn't. Canelo landed harder more impressive punches on G than Jacobs did. I don't see how you can say that Jacobs did better. I think it's just that for whatever reason people are just incredibly biased against Canelo. Maybe it's because he's a redhead, who knows, maybe it's due to how he fights, but generally people are just unwilling to give him credit for some reason.

Jacobs arguably beat Golovkin. Canelo clearly lost.

Jacobs I could have swung either way by two rounds. Canelo fight if I was extremely generous maybe I could give it a draw. So on that metric, Jacobs came closer to beating GGG than Canelo IMO.

I'm not sure about that, because he fought Canelo much more cautiously early on than he fought Jacobs.

Im not calling GGG gstring anymore. Even with his limited skills, GGG is tough as nails and makes good use of what he is working with. I only ask that he dosent fight any more bums, his career is ending, and no need to end with the bum of the month club.

I had both fights 7-5 Golovkin but think there's a far better case for Jacobs beating him than Canelo beating him. there were 2-3 swing rounds against Canelo; the 3rd, 10th and maaaybe the 6th. There were far more than that against Jacobs leaving it significantly more open to interpretation.

How do you figure? Jacobs was knocked down. That's a 2 point round, essentially a 2 rounds hole essentially that Jacobs had to fight out of, where even if you thought Canelo and Jacobs fought G the same outside of the knockdown, Canelo would naturally have a better argument not been knocked down. And then you have Canelo coming on late in the championship rounds, whereas Jacobs was completely spent by the 12 (threw himself out in the 11th) and gave away the 12th. I thought if Jacobs had more left for the 12th, he had a better argument for winning. Canelo had much more energy in the 12th than Jacobs did, didn't get knocked down like Jacobs did. I don't see how given these two facts that you can be OK with Jacobs winning but not with Canelo winning.

Yes because I think he was more worried about Canelo than he made out but once he gauged that nothing was going to hurt him he changed his approach...

With Jacobs he was dealing with a much taller man with a longer reach who hit very hard he was forced to be cautious.

Canelo being so good was the reason GGG didn't dominate...

Please explain how you arrive at this conclusion. Jacobs had nothing left in the 12th and got knocked down. Also G fought Canelo much more cautiously than he did Jacobs and gave away the early rounds.

I mean, I believe GGG beat Jacobs too, especially with the knockdown, but there were more close rounds that could go either way. Very back and forth.

In the Canelo match, I just feel Canelo was mauled. I pretty much agree with Lederman's scorecard. Maybe I'd give Canelo one more round than he did.

    Check mah edit, fam.
In summary I thought the entirety of the middle stretch of the Canelo fight (rounds 4-9) was clearly Golovkin winning via ring generalship. Consistently parrying/sponging Canelo's typical 30s burst and then spending the remaining 2m30s backing up and maneuvering Canelo around whilst dominating with the jab, power shots landed through out that period being roughly equal. That's 6 rounds in the bank for Golovkin so even if you give the swing rounds (3, 10) both to Canelo the best case scenario is a fortuitous draw. There were far more than just 2-3 "either way" rounds against Jacobs though.
As for Golovkin losing the early rounds to Canelo I believe that was more from nervousness rather than caution. He's a top fighter but that fight was his first taste of a grandiose world stage, unlike Canelo who has his Floyd fight as experience to rely on.
