Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz, Nov. 4 in NY officially announced

For years boxing forum posters have called Wilder a bum with no chin. . . For so long we have been led to believe that Luis Ortiz is a monster from another planet. .If Deontay beats Ortiz then does that now make him a bum too?. . . .

 

OK, anyone who seriously uses the word "bum" to describe anyone in a position to have a legit fight for a world title are a complete casual. If Wilder beats Ortiz then he moves up HEAPS in my eyes. I definitely put him no lower than Joshua.

 

Anyone calling a legit contender a bum automatically loses respect as far as I'm concerned.

The winner goes to at least #2 in the division behind Joshua in my opinion, possibly even #1 if the performance is good enough.

 

Wilder is getting knocked out, he got wobbled a a few times and Ortiz is gonna destroy his chin. Wilder's defense is shocking.

 

Solid win for Wilder if he manages it but let's not over-react, Ortiz is 48 years old and looked great against Jennings but that was 2 years ago.
Wilder is facing him at the right time.

 

This is the step up people have been waiting for. Ortiz is way better than any of Wilder's opponents as of yet. This fight will let people know what Wilder is really about. If he wins then fair play but I see Ortiz winning by KO.

 

I agree that Ortiz is actually older (we had a long thread on that earlier), but he's still the best opponent around for Wilder at this point.

 

Credit where it's due, Wilder is finally stepping up. I really didn't think he had it in him to take this fight but he has proven me wrong. I think it's a real pick 'em as I don't really rate either of them as highly as their fans do but it's a great fight on paper.

If this goes horribly wrong for Deontay and he gets splattered then his team have really miscalculated by not getting him a bigger fight to cash out in, if he wins however the question will be why the **** has he been kept on a leash for so long?

 

Def. It also sets up a unification bout nicely by removing one Joshua's other mando from the title picture win or lose as I can't envisage Pulev springing an upset.

Let's hope the WBA don't try and force Oquendo on Joshua any time soon as that fight as well as being a waste of time legit puts a guys life in danger.

 

Can't wait to see this one. Big opportunity for either guy to break out.

Yeah Ortiz is at least 45, possibly 55, might be even 65 but still a mean mother****er. I didn't actually see his last fights that poor either, made Allen look like a little boy and Scott was losing his **** all over the place.

 

Yes lol, that would truly be dangerous. No 44-yr old, who was the underdog against Shannon Briggs of all people, should be in the ring with Joshua.

 

Yes, you're right on all points.

He's really old, but people exaggerate how bad his last performances were. He was in control all the time, won each round, but was just too lazy to chase his opponents down and finish them off.

 

I never saw it as lazy tbh. He's wise, knows where he stands in the fight and doesn't take unnecessary risks. He won't lose a fight not turning it up where he needed to do more like Wlad arguably did against Joshua (& Fury?), but then he won't get himself KOd like Izu Ugonoh did when he was convincingly winning and decided to try and finish it early against Breazeale either.
