How does GGG rate p4p and amongst all time middle weights?
GGG was supposed to murder Canelo in a one sided beat down. He maybe won 7-5, 8-4.

Does this alter your perception of him? Do you still consider him better than Ward?

How do Martinez, Hopkins, Leonard, Hagler, Monzon do against Canelo?

This is funny because just as many here thought he was a hype job who fought nothing but bums all his career.

I suspect this is you opinion....

I think he would give any middle weight in history a hell of a fight.

Bear in mind he fought a hell of a fight, considering he has slowed a bit. Golden Boy took the fight on the notion GGG was showing signs of slipping, which he is, however he is still one hell of a formidable fighter.

I don't see him beating Hagler.

35 years old takes on a peak 27 year old on everyone's top 10 p4p list and basically chases him all over the ring. When said opponent is supposed to be Macho warrior. He bossed a guy who likes to be boss.
Throw in Peak Jacobs, Peak Brooks, Lemieux- Triple G is doing just fine for this era and is in the mix with the greats for discussion.
He has excellent chin, excellent stamina, excellent power, excellent punch variety, he has excellent ring IQ, excellent at cutting off the ring and he has underrated defense.
He has good speed not great.
Imo we have to go back to Hagler 30 years ago to find a guy who has a legitimate argument to beat him and has a better career argument at middle. That's impressive but again just my opinion.

    No doubt about that.

This fight was delayed until GGG had aged sufficiently that Golden Boy thought Canelo could beat him.

At 35 they thought it would be safe enough. But anyone who saw the fight knows they should have waited longer.

GGG is 35. Hagler retired at 32. Monzon retired at 34 and Sugar Ray had his last win at 33.

Yeah no doubt they took the fight believing the timing was right. To an extent it was, because 2 years ago GGG would have stopped Canelo. His punches are not as sharp or accurate at 35 as they once were.....yet he is still the best middle weight in the world.

    All those middleweights beat Canelo.

Also I consider GGG a better fighter than Ward. I also consider Ward below Sergey since during the first fight, Ward clearly lost.

For starters you can't hold fighters to the trash talking of over zealous fans. By that token, you can say Golovkin exceeded expectations because some Canelo fanboys said he was supposed to expose the aging Golovkin but got outpointed. Golovkin was a solid betting favorite but not an overwhelming one.

Okay, at least you got that right. So on that token, I believe Golovkin's stock raised given he out pointed a prime P4P rated fighter while 35 years old. Most of the greats you listed were either retired or washed up by that age, so Golovkin has something special going for him.

I believe he is better than Ward, who at 32 got out boxed by the older Kovalev last year.

I think Canelo probably beats Martinez, depending on the timing.

Ward went up a division and KO'd the bigger man and bogeyman of the division. First fight was close, but the fact is he beat him twice.

GGG fought a smaller guy coming up from the division below, who gassed after 4, could only fight for 30 seconds of each round and was forced to lay on the ropes, and still the fight was razor close. This is 'El Pollo' we're talking about, the guy he was meant to KO in 3 rounds.

There's no comparison, and if the 2 fought Ward would win handily, most probably inside the distance.

Alvarez weighed more than Golovkin. He had the middleweight belt, then dropped it because he refused to fight his mandatory Golovkin. Alvarez fought Chavez at 164.5 lbs. after claiming he could not fight at 160 for the 160 lb. belt. Oscar waited because he thought Golovkin had gotten old enough to beat, but Golovkin won, by at least 8 rounds to 4, my card was the same as Harold Lederman and round 90% or more think Golovkin won the fight clearly.......................except Oscar Hopkins Byrd and a few other biased cheats................Alvarez was coming down in weight and all the steriods did not win him the fight, but the corrupt judges almost did.........................Golovkin won the fight.................

Not sure I'd say he's a better boxer than Ward. The Ward comparison is a difficult one, especially if - like me - you scored his fight with Kovalev to Kovalev.

All the same, he did beat Canelo (again, in my eyes at least) and people were saying he needed a name from the P4P list to even be considered amongst the greats. Well, there you have it. As for fighting the likes of the greats, I'm not going to pick him against Hagler or someone like that. But I do honestly think he's one of those guys who gives the greats difficult fights, for sure.

I think GGG proved his is top 5 P4p at the moment and also showed why people have avoided him for so long. Even now when he is past his prime he still has a granite chin and relentless pressure. He mixed it with boxings golden boy at his peak and won

The excuses this guy gets by his by his shameless fanbase is on a level thats never seen before.

Apparently being 35 is now a death sentence according to these people. Actually 34 , since the age excuse came out after the Jacobs fight.

Dozens of guys were at their peak at 34 and over throughout the last 20 years. The last MW champ was at his best at 34-38.

34/35 isn't old for a boxer these days unless they've had a long , hard fought career and GGG certainly hasn't.

He actually looked more youthful than Canelo , it was Canelo who looked like the older , conservative fighter. He fought like a mid 40's Hopkins so there is simply no excuse that GGG couldn't end him because he was old. He isn't old and didn't perform like he was old.

Lets see if these same fools offer up the same excuses when 36/37 year old Rigo fights Lomo later this year.
