Ward? No. He wouldn't beat Ward. My prediction was a robbery. It nearly happened... 6 GGG, 4 Alvarez, 2 even was my scorecard twice. He'll most probably end his career fighting Cotto & Saunders. If he beats them than that is a quality MW resume. I'll evaluate when his career is over.. Drawing (in which he deserved the win) with SA is in fact no stain on his resume at all because Alvarez will fight another 5 years & will probably increase his resume depth too. He lost to FMJ at 152! That's it! Note the GGG version was Lineal at 160 & had fought FMJ, Cotto, Lara, Chavez... way more experience! How would they do against Canelo? With or without Oscar, Byrd & his cash cow pull? Alvarez is worth too much to too many to lose. So i suspect most of them (barring a stoppage) would struggle to overcome this. Heck, Floyd nearly fell foul to it too! I'd favour them all (except Martinez) in competitive fights but it doesn't mean they'd win LOL
GGG is a pressure fighter which is the most physically demanding style. And since physical ability peaks at ages 25-29 or so that means a lot. Age does matter you dip****. 35 is ancient for a pressure fighter. Like old as dirt. And it's even getting pretty old for a pure boxer.
GGG has shown that he has tremendous technical skill. His age nullified all of his physical gifts against Canelo. He won that fight on technical ability alone. Superb ring cutting, ring IQ, footwork, jab, punch arsenal (even better in his prime), stamina, pacing, etc. He raised his stock considerably against Canelo. If he can do this at 35 imagine what he could have done 3-4 years ago.
Pressure fighter how? GGG is more of a boxer/puncher.. He doesn't fight on the inside like pressure fighters do. Those fighters are worn out by 35 because they spent all their careers in wars. GGG hasn't endured any wars. He's a well preserved 35 y /o with little millage on his clock.. He's 30 in boxing years. I guess you believe Floyd was shot to bits at 39 when he gave Pacman a schooling.
GGG is a pressure fighter. That's what all his opponents said after the fought him. They feel his presence, he's always there and he used to average many more power punches per round than the average MW. GGG can box and punch as well. He's a very versatile fighter. Probably the most versatile fighter since a prime Marco Antonio Barrera.
Do what?? Get a draw against a light hitting midget who only fought for a minute of every round? Why didn't he use his 'superb ' ring cutting skill to take him out? The idea of cutting off the ring is to trap a guy isn't it? I never saw GGG trapping Canelo.
Watch Frazier and Miadana against Mayweather , thats pressure , although GGG does apply pressure too , but his stalking style of pressure isn't all that physically demanding Not compared to the style of Martinez whose constant movement off the backfoot is more taxing on the body. Pressure boxer Povetkin is still doing pretty good at 37 and he has 80 pounds on Golovkin. Face it tinman , Golovkin is in the prime of his career.
Doesn't change a thing, actually it says more about Canelo ,,that in his prime at 27 he ran from a 35 year old middleweight when aggressive fighting could have won the fight.
"Face it ,Golovkin is in his prime"? oh geez! I think you need education on how the word prime applies to boxing.
I still put Golovkin at #3 P4P, after Ward and Crawford. This will change after Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux, and I'll prob have him at #4.
His career is not over, and I highly suspect he either ties or passes Hopkins for 20 consecutive title defense at middle weight, a very significant accomplishment! Here's what I think. GGG won 8-4. 7-4-1 is also a fair card if the IBF rules were out as they do not allow 10-10 rounds. GGG is a top 10 ATG at middleweight, both in a head to head and legacy perspective. Pound for pound, he did not move up, so he's not going to rate high in this sense. How do the others do vs Canelo? Assuming they were 35 as GGG was and had to deal with Oscar De La Hoya's judges, some might draw or even lose! Sad but true.
You are mistaking past his prime for old. he is still a quality top 5 p4p fighter this side of his prime but he 100% on the slide.
Yeah Roy Jones peaked at 35, I mean he never got hit until... Here is the cold hard truth,,,what I'm telling you is not an opinion but an indisputable fact,, you are not better at 35 than you were at 25. You can be wiser ,smarter, have guile , savvy and experience but you will not be the same physically ,I've been watching boxing since I was a kid almost 50 years and when a fighter gets old he has the same symptoms, hesitates, can't pull the trigger on a punch, he's not as active in the ring. An older fighters stamina decreases but he can compensate by using experience , being relaxed, rolling with punches knowing when to rest. Teddy Atlas was right, he thought GGG would knockout Canelo 3 years ago, but he said that GGG had slipped since then. Why? he had gotten older! This is such a simple fundamental part of boxing I'm at a loss as to why you deny it?
