Say what you what, the man came in a winner and left as a winner. He still has all his faculties, his money is straight, and he is in good standing. He came, he saw and he conquered. I wish him the best in his future endeavors. Now it is up to the new generation to pick up the torch and maybe one of them can be just as successful.
I really don't understand this. He just tried to get a fight with Buglioni. Could have easily fought Stevenson and maybe tried to win a CW title. Very upsetting as a Ward fan.
haha I knew he would dodge beteriev/bivol/marcus browne... all 2 young while hes getting older.. couldn't stand watching ward fight anyway . good riddance for me but I hope he enjoys retirement and wish him well. just not a fan of his style which I think is bad ofr boxing.
He is clearly on the downside physically. It's noticeable. This helps put GGG into perspective. GGG has more fights and is older than Ward, and yet people still think GGG is in his prime. Aging is real. Wearing down happens. Marvin Hagler retired at age 32. And Ward is out of the game at 33. Guys like Hopkins are freaks. Most boxers are clearly fading physically by age 33 or so.
He never wore a strong enough cup as well. I think Ward was taking over the fight, without his usual cheating BS. Than he hits that beautiful shot and follows it up with below the belt shots(3 of them) to end the fight. I'm not calling that a clean victory, I know what I saw. The fight wasn't called off before the low blows occurred, it was DURING the fight. That's a no contest. Hell, Ward's blows MAY not have even been intentional, they was still low blows which ended the fight. That's a NC.
Let it go he retired undefeated a HOF fighter and an ATG at 168 and as Kovalev's daddy perhaps in retirement he can now take his son Kovalev fishing.
Agreed re GGG, unfortunately for him he only got his big chance at 35 so we will never know how good the peak version was.
I think the writing was on the wall, I believe if not for the Kovalev challenge, he would've already retired. Him and Froch were 2 guys that were cerebral and you just had the feeling were one foot in and one foot out. I also think Ward hated the promotional and management side of the game and just thought **ck it!
He will be back, he's just trying to get out of some contract or get more money build a bit of hype for his next fight.
Maybe so, but face it Pimp, nothing I said is untrue, no one cares about SMW here, the S6 while great for hardcores, went largely unnoticed by casuals, his legacy will be the only two matches that got mainstream attention, and whether you want to admit it or not, most didn't view the outcomes of either of those matches favorably.
