Yeah, he's sure not sitting in any pocket in the clip I just watched.

I've seen Jacobs say it first hand. Doesn't mean it holds up, though.

The first thing that stands out in that clip is how much bigger Ali looks than Liston. It must have been a shock to the audience at the fight when they saw Ali and Liston together, to see that the "skinny" Clay was bigger and longer looking than Liston.

Ali's reach was measured at 78 inches on Wide World of Sports (at about 1:10)

in front of Howard Cosell. That might be the only time a boxer's reach has ever been legitimately measured. Liston's supposed 84" reach seems to be another boxing myth.

In the pocket to me means being in range to punch while balanced. Usually you’re no more than one step away from your opponent.

If you fight from the outside, mobile, you aren’t fighting in the pocket. If you stop, square up, and are only a few feet across your opponent, you’re in the pocket. There is no pure definition, and it is up to interpretation, although I’m sure a certain poster or two will hang on my sweaty nutsack to find a way to dramatically disagree.

Hey so you might be one of the dumbest people I’ve ever met in this forum. You’re calling Listons reach a myth based of your shitty analysis?

Liston throws a jab off his back foot, which Ali slips. At the same range, Ali had to lean in to land his jab. You probably didn’t notice it because you suck at reviewing footage.

Considering you accused the entire Boxing world of mythologizing Listons reach based on your crappy review of a short clip, it’s apparent that you’re just another agenda fueled idiot.

It’s a stark difference between his dancing mobility from rounds prior. Here he moves around, laterally and with head movement, but notice how he doesn’t really exit the range.

Wipe away the tears and take a deep breath...just because I can see the truth doesn't mean you can't believe whatever you want. If you need bigger than life heroes feel free to embrace the myth.

Sorry dude. Just because your life is ****, you’re not taking Liston down with you.

He was a great fighter. With a freakish reach. And its going to take more than some blind agenda fueling from Kevin’s sidekick to change that.
