About 8 times out of 10 a good boxer with good defense usually beats a big puncher but what are some of the occasions throughout history where a puncher knocked out their opponent despite the opponent having the superior boxing skills?

Graham vs Jackson and Jackson vs Castro spring to mind.

There are tons more examples though. It's not exactly rare.

As others have said, there are countless examples of the old puncher's chance resulting in the better boxing being beaten inside-schedule.

A different angle might be: fights in which the puncher has managed to beat the boxer on points with the obvious factor being their power offsetting the other guy's better skills - because in theory, it should be rarer for the puncher to win a decision against the boxer than for them to simply KO them.

I can think of a couple of examples where raw power was enough to beat the better boxer via decision over twelve, usually because it resulted in multiple 10-8 (or 10-7) rounds.

Julio Cesar Vasquez beating a young Winky could be one, and more recently David Lemieux beating Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. In both cases the fights were decided by knockdowns; the 'boxers' both arguably won more rounds, but the puncher won his rounds often by two or three point margins, which made the difference.

Disagree with some of these. Froch was more skilled than Taylor, for example.

Stevenson/Dawson is a big big standout from the modern game for me.

Stevenson is a one trick pony. Chad has much better fundamentals and is the better all around boxer. Just got caught cold.

    Rahman/Lewis.

    Hatton/Kosta.

    Margarito/Cotto.

Are you mental? Jermaine is much more skilled than Carl. Carl can't even keep his hands up, ffs. Take his granite chin away and he'd been lucky to get to Euro level.

So why was Taylor comfortably outboxing Froch and well ahead until the stoppage?

Jermain cocked his right hand back and didn't know how to throw every punch, work inside, etc. He was athletic and had a good jab. Froch understood boxing a lot better but had slow hands. Both had limited defense.
