This is the one fight that just mystifies me. And people bring it up all the time. Does anybody realize how hard it is to actually carry power into the higher weights? Going from 147 to 160 is a big jump. Starting around the 154-168 range you start dealing with guys that are getting big enough that the power starts to get unreal.

This is supposed to be a fight that made Hopkins an ATG. Well that's BS. Tito was a beast and monster at 147. Where his 5'11" height and dual wielding power made him a scary fighter. He had legit savage power in both hands which is extremely rare in boxing at the highest level.

Just because Hopkins neutralized the power of a 147 pounder doesn't make it a great win. And just because he knocked out a guy at 36 years old doesn't mean he was in his prime. He was already past it or getting close to it. He was already showing diminished workrate and speed. I mean come on, in a few years he would lose to Jermain freakin Taylor and get outworked by a guy who was known to gas out. LMFAO. How you get outworked by a low stamina fighter? It's called being old. The Tito fights means that Hopkins could still knockout Welterweights. Well who gives a flying rats ass? Hasn't the hundreds of years of boxing history shown us that a talented big man almost always beats a talented little man? And believe me in that fight Hopkins was big and Tito was small.

147 to 160 is no joke. Look at Napoles and Monzon in their fight. A completely and utterly predictable outcome. One man is just too damn big.

Wow comparing someone who never fought above 147 to Tito who was WW king, destroyed 154 and a champ at 160. I'm disappointed in you LG

Yeah, that's why Tito was the the underdog going in...
And Bernard was not a big MW, his fight night weight was usually at 166-168. Thats why he weighed in at 157 and Tito weighed 158.

Hopkins started his career and had his first six pro fights at light heavyweight. Instead of moving up and daring to be great, he actually moved down. So his wins over career welters really don't count for anything.

Oh yes, and he was a PED cheat.

In hindsight yes. But at the time Tito was on a rampage after dispute decision win over Oscar, annihilation of Vargas, Reid and Joppy.
Most publication put him as p4p no1. And at the time of the match, Hopkins was an 8-1 underdog. Great win for Hopkins.

Great win definitely, how can anyone say otherwise is beyond me. Hopkins win over Tito is better than GGG win over Canelo. Yes GGG clearly won that one.

Well given that the fight was in 2001 and it is now 2017 don't you think hindsight is very relevant?

And 16 years later his fans still bring it up. I mean WTF, why? Who has ever been a monster at 147 or below and maintained being a monster at 160 and higher? There is Thomas Hearns who was a beast all the way to 175. Ray Robinson was the GOAT at 147, but was severely diminished at 160 and higher. I'm trying to think here. Who has ever actually gone from 147 to 160 and looked every bit as good.

Unless you are Thomas Hearns it doesn't happen. Moving up in weight at the higher weight classes without losing power and strength is basically impossible.

Look at the pictures I posted and then respond to that. Do that instead of strawman.
