It's very hard to come by Galento footage. There is hardly any out there.
So when footage like this comes up, it's always worth posting imo.
It may not have the curation of finding a sparring clip from a fighter with hours of footage out there, but having said that, I still find Galento's boxing here to be impressive. He even does some crafty inside work. Much better than the image he has.

Just based off his boxing mechanics in the first two seconds of the clip (pushing off the back foot with the jab, very nice form), it's apparent he can box. Also his rhythm, sense of distance, and knowing when to move his head, all while staying balanced.

Were you actually impressed by Galento's performance in the footage?

No, but he doesn't fulfill the stereotypical face first brawler with no skill that many make him out to be.

There is nothing to not be impressed with in the footage, if you actually know boxing, and what skill refinement in distance, footwork, form, balance, timing, and positioning looks like.

Certain elitist members here have never laced em up once in their entire lives.

I suppose this is true, would you care to name them and give us a reason for downgrading their opinions?
ps As far as I am aware Ray Arcel never boxed.Weren't you defending his boxing acumen on another thread?

ps How many actual bouts have you had R?

Cool, I wasn't impressed either. I agree with you that he's demonstrating at least some familiarity with the principles of sound boxing technique in the clip (in contrast to his performance in certain other clips).

    Don't worry, it ain't you.

Unless it is known that Arcel never boxed, you should assume that he did.
Do we know of any other big time trainer who never laced em up?

    Thank you.

A pattern I've found is that every time you're unsure that a great trainer has ever boxed, you eventually learn that they indeed did, to some capacity. Having said that, don't think I've yet to see anything on Dundee having boxed. But I bet he has, or at least sparred.

Galento is a misunderstood fighter in many ways. He had an extensive, and successful amateur background for the era. He was not so much a bar brawler who got into boxing, as somebody who had a good understanding of boxing mechanics, who increasingly regressed to form at world level.

that little bit of footage Is Excellent and it is another piece of proof that when the filming is done right the fighters look better and normal.

so just now try and imagine for ALL the GOOD Footage out there of Galento's Opponents, well next time you see poor crap footage of Two Ton, well just remember this little snippet and you'll remember that in Real Life Tony ( and ALL others), was fighting these fights & fighters MUCH Better & Proper than the Poor & S hi t Film show!!!
