Robinson, Hearns, Leonard, Griffith, Walker, Graziano, and maybe Basilio.

So you think that having a loss doesn't do anything to you mentally if you've been winning your whole career?

 

He beat William Joppy before he lost to Bhop. He had time to acclimate to the weight by the time he faced Hopkins. It was a great win

Bernard's MW reign is only remembered because his 20 defenses. Those names were all WEAK and most of those defenses were the IBF. Unifies the division against Howard Eastman??? Meh. Not saying he ducked anyone in the division.....just the division was a graveyard.

Trinidad mowed down 154 and Joppy....doesnt change the fact that he was a significantly smaller man in the ring that night and it's very hard to be too impressed by the win.

The best fighter he ever fought a title fight against was was Taylor...and he lost twice.

 

They were freaks at welter and of course their power is going to be diminished moving up to middleweight where they fight bigger guys, but a lot of those guys were middleweight sized and just passing through welter while they grew into their frame. Hearns was big enough to be a light heavyweight. He was just really thin. Now, Leonard was as big as your average middleweight anyway 5'10" and he fought on even terms with Hagler and Hearns at 160. Ray Robinson was 5'11" so a big middleweight once he filled out. Probably, the most successful middleweight of all time.

Graziano was small but had stupid power. Even after he moved to middleweight his fights mostly only went 3 rounds. As for Griffith, at middleweight he beat Nino Benvenuti, Joey Archer, Dick Tiger, Don Fullmer, and Bennie Briscoe. That's a pretty amazing run for any middleweight. Basilio's only good win at middleweight was an old Ray Robinson, so strike him from the list. As for Mickey Walker, he wasn't diminished. He fought his way up to heavyweight despite only being 5'7". At middleweight he beat Tiger Flowers but he only defended the title a handful of times, since most of the time he was at middleweight he was fighting the top light heavyweights and trying to get that title too. At middleweight Mickey Walker seemed able to beat anybody not named Harry Greb.

 

He never was drained at middle weight nor was he any bigger than the average middleweight. When he went up to fight Tarver he had to go through a lot of changes to get up to that weight. Oscar was a middleweight before he fought Hopkins. He took the title from Sturm and then challenged Hopkins. Oscar was a skilled and elite fighter and he challenged Hopkins and got his ass waxed. It was a good win for Hopkins because of Oscars pedigree. Same thing with Trinidad. He was already a middleweight champion of good standing and Hopkins stopped his ass. Another good win for B Hop. Those were good wins for Hopkins and they are not tainted at all.

 

He totally steamrolled Joppy too.

Meh, Joppy was a very good fighter. Just not elite. You’re being way too harsh on him.

 

How about 160 to 175? Where B-hop schooled a guy 20 years his junior. I understand the overrating of the Trinidad win, but at the same time many underrate the win over Jean Pascal to take the title.
