I've trained in every major boxing gym during the late 70's and 80's in the NY/NJ area.

I think you are reading way too much into way too little footage. If we are going to be over-impressed by some of the nice stuff he does here, we need to call out the sloppiness in the same footage. I will choose to do neither because it is so little evidence upon which to extrapolate such conclusions.

    Not really.
If he's displaying proper mechanics, it's evidence that he understands them, and can employ them.

BUTTERBEAN SHOWING CRAZY SKILLS!! Was looking like a big, fat, white Pernell Whitaker out there. I think it's time for some of you to reconsider your assumptions about this blubbery brawler.

Here's some more Galento sparring footage. Do you find his boxing here impressive too?

You're saying butterbean is as good as Whitaker?
    You seem lost.

He's just manhandling his sparring partner with lazy bombs.
I find that to be very impressive.

    Your questions are non sequitur.
Maybe take a deep breath and reread the thread.

We're not the ones who say that Galento has superior skills to everyone.
Modernists are the ones who say he didn't know how to box.

Of course this will go over the ants brain.

Galento's opponents seem to be unable to capitalize on what seem to us to be counter punching opportunities. Either they don't know how to box or there is more to Tony than meets the eye.

I think it is obvious that the latter is far more likely.

I wonder if he's ever seen George Foreman versus 5 in the same night?

There's no mystery at all: the man was a beast capable of overwhelming mediocre physically overmatched opponents. But it's ridiculous to pretend that he had impressive technique and boxing skills.

Yeah, pretending would be weird indeed.
    Denying would be another thing.

I'm curious what specific quotes you have in mind here. What specific claims about Galento do you feel have been disproven by the footage you've posted?

That he was lacking in boxing technique.

Tony fought his own style. It is preposterous to say he hadn't mastered the fundamentals of boxing.
