Depends how low of a bar you have in mind when you say "mastered the fundamentals."

    Too vague.

Let's just say if Galento was put in front of a group of novice boxers and told to display correct punching technique, basic defense, and basic footwork then he would be able to do it repeatedly without any flaws.

As would all other fighters ever ranked in the top 10.

Here's Arreola training. Doesn't look too bad does he?

Fighters always look better in training. The litmus test comes in how they perform in the ring. Galento looked less than impressive.

Sounds like an extremely low bar. I wouldn't be shocked if he could do those things (if you kept the footwork basic enough, anyway).

What do you consider the fundamentals of boxing?

    Arreola isn't sparring here.

Would you say he looked pretty tasty on the pads though?

Sure but everyone looks good training aside from sparring. As one of my old coaches used to say "You don't know how good you are until you spar".

Tony fought exactly as he intended to fight. He knew what he had, what he was and wasn't willing to do and proceeded in the manner that worked within those parameters. He was too stocky and too uncommitted to training to successfully box in the classic sense at the highest level. But he hit like a ton of bricks and had an iron chin. The rest fell in line after that.

As Janitor alluded, he had some lengthy amateur experience and success, at light heavy if I remember, where he was New Jersey champ. If nothing else, that honed his fighting instincts, something we see in all his footage. Polished technique? Not quite but again that was never his intention.

    Nobody said Arreola can't box.
They did say Galento couldn't though.

Don't think I disagree with any of this. Certainly lacked polished technique but he was a physical force and a fighter through and through.

When does he cross his feet "quite horribly?"
Show me the example, and name me the boxer you THINK hasn't done the same thing.
And then I will show you how deep your bias and false double standards (intentional or not) runs.

I'll believe Galento is an arm puncher the day I believe Tua was one.
Just because he doesn't twist his hip and push off his feet to generate power like the LA Fitness Boxing 101 instructor, doesn't mean he isn't generating it and delivering it in other ways (shoulder snap).

You said he crossed his feet horribly, which I refuted.
Your interpretation of our exchange makes no sense.
