He's clearly better than a journeyman, is only young & if managed sensibly, is capable of further improvement. People obviously think traveling half-way around the world, fighting & winning is easy. It isn't. Journeyman don't travel half-way around the world to fight & win.
If its so poor why don't midgets man up and fight, heavyweight is unlimited Its like any contact sport, smaller people might have more flair, but flair isn't the only contributing factor of talent Punching hard is also a talent, so is absorbing a punch P4P is a gimmick, mickey mouse stuff
Good fighter and still developing. The problem is not exactly him but his trainer now i think. Still wanting to see him perform where he wasnt in say 2015,and hes the same guy?that tells me something and how his trainer Barry also goes about things. Parker is about ranked number 6 really and a case for whyte being better can be made despite what ppl THINK they know. Still young and thats probably his best attribute right now other than wanting to get better, but not sure what Bary is doing over there considering he had alot of time to develope Parker? its clear its the trainer bc hes not really doing anything different so far.
That's...okay, wow. There's just way too much to unpack here. I feel like a long drawn-out conversation isn't going to result in either of us swaying the other person's opinion here. Let's agree to disagree.
I think Parker has more to offer.... It's just about unlocking it. But to do that he needs a new trainer, someone like Sanchez to unleash the Polynesian warrior that's hidden inside of him.
Better than Jimmy Thunder, Samson Po'uha, Tui Toia, Paea Wolfgramm and other 90s Polynesian heavyweights barring David Tua who was inconsistent.... Parker has enough boxing ability to beat Tua providing he wasn't on his A-game which was only on a couple of nights.
He's got the whole arsenal he just needs a trainer that can help him put it together consistently IMO
Well he keeps winning, and against solid opponents also. So at the moment I'd give him a 7/10. I just feel he is becoming a bit of a robot with Barry. That is obviously my take, from the outside looking in. The Parker from a few years ago, seemed to have a bit of fluidity about himself. Is it because he's bulked up an extra 6-8kg? or is it the constant drill work that Barry has him doing? Drill work is fine, but at the end of the day, if openings present themselves in the heat of the battle, the mind needs to forget "that combo" or "this move", and just see it clearly as it is, and smack the dude in the face. I'd like Parker to trim down a bit, and utilise his jab more. I'm fine seeing him throw it out there, doubling it up, and not connecting. Sometimes the best thing to do against awkward fighters is to get them to constantly reset themselves, opening up opportunities. In the meantime, he's our boy from NZ, so he's passed all expectations already. But like most NZ sportspeople, the Kiwi fans are always expecting perfection. Something the All Blacks constantly strive for...
The best habit you can have in boxing is the habit of winning and Parker is proving to be very good at that.
I mean, by the strictest definition, outside the context of boxing (as the word does exist outside the sport and does precede it) that is precisely what journeymen do - travel and ply their craft, hence journey-men. Even just narrowing the scope to just the context of sports, typically a journeyman is a veteran that has been all over. Good enough to do so, to have that experienced skill-set in demand in various places utilized in various roles, but not good enough to stay put in one place for long and be a franchise player. The rest of your point is well taken, Parker wouldn't be just some Jorge Luis González in another era. His skill and chin make up for his lack of speed or his once vaunted power not carrying to elite level. Just, technically, had to point out that how you phrased that sentence hit the linguistic prescriptivist in me as odd.
