Nice thread IB. Yeah, booth has been around a long spell and I remember that he did give sheika his 1st loss though the boxing writers on this side said they thought omar got jobbed. hmmmm.
Did some digging and his sentence was apparently reduced. He was originally supposed to have served 9 years for being the lieutenant of a cocaine ring but he only profited £1,200 from his career in crime while other accomplices had raked in more but got lighter sentencing, which appeals judges took into consideration. As of January of 2015 he started coaching at Tommy Coyle's gym in his native Hull.
Takes huge ***** to throw that shot when you're in against a competent opponent, considering where the punch has to come from. Like leading with a right hook to the body. I marvel at how often Salido can throw it without eating anything consistent in return, even though his opponents know it's coming. Look at Ali's record and the patterns in his resume. I imagine several people in his career were at the very least offered money for a certain result.
A week from Saturday is the decennial of Booth vs. Langsdale - anybody have any celebrations planned for International Journeyman's Day? I'm thinking BBQ.
BLAST! Time sneaked me again. Second year running I've forgotten to bump on the anniversary of Booth vs. Langdale Day, this one the eleventh (last year was the big decennial, for shame... ) Or rather, didn't forget...more like remembered the day before AND the day after...which is unhelpful. Anyway, belated happy Booth vs. Langdale Day, everyone!
Tommy Coyle is actually in camp for a fairly important fight in a month's time on the Burnett vs. Zhakayinov undercard on SKY, versus unbeaten Tyrone Nurse of Belfast. Does anybody follow Coyle on any social media? Wondering if there's been a sighting of Booth working his team, if he looks healthy & happy these days.
He mentioned it in May but not happening yet,he's done others,Ricky Hatton included.Got a biography out,Boxing Booth, worth a read if you haven't already.
Had a look on Amazon but couldn't find it but stumbled across this old thread: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/boxing-booth-autobiography-of-journeyman-tony-booth.99607/
A poster in the Brit forum just posted this, it's the documentary about Booth from the first page of this thread. Those links no longer work but here it is again. This content is protected
