Thursday at Casino de Montréal. I've got to say - this is very disappointing comeback opponent for Kaboom, after fourteen months on the shelf. Muscle-bound yet mentally fragile can-crusher (a poor man's Bruce Seldon rehash, essentially) Drumond - whom you might well remember best as the easily outclassed tuneup a bored, fat Odlanier Solis fought in his penultimate bout while beating the drums of war on his march to a shot @ K2; or as Ruslan Chagaev's opponent in the second-easiest title fight of his career, behind only Pianeta - was kayoed in 2013 by Luis Andres Pineda. That is the same Luis Andres Pineda that was kayoed by Tomasz Adamek in Goral's cruiserweight debut way back in 2007. Drumond has competed exactly twice since Pineda stopped him in 2013 - scoring a pair of KO1s, albeit over a pair of guys with a combined record of, I shit you not, 8-34. (six of their combined wins and thirty-one of their combined losses by KO) This needs to a) be a quick and savage (ideally highlight-reel-worthy) night's work for Óscar, and b) not his last outing this year. He's now 30 years old and has been a pro for over eight years. He's, potentially, a top heavyweight prospect if he could stay active. He is fit, powerful, fast, and brings an excellent & deep amateur pedigree which includes an Olympic victory over Kubrat Pulev. He can't still be facing the Drumonds of the world. He maybe gets a pass this once for having been out so long, but after this, a big step up is a must.
This will be Rivas' first time headlining in a few years, after spending time on the undercards of Artur Beterbiev, Adonis Stevenson, and his BFF, occasional sparring mate & fellow Colombian-Canadian import, Eléider Álvarez. He needs to knock Drumond into the eleventh row to start building up some regional buzz and make himself a draw. Maybe snatch the Canadian heavyweight title from that punk Dillon Carman (whom I deeply resent for cherry-picking fifty-something Donovan Ruddock from retirement ...wouldn't mind seeing his chin go kaboom) to pad up his accolades before seeking opportunities abroad.
"Poll Results: Kaboom or Double-D? Members who voted for 'Drumond by stoppage' Ra's Al-Ghul 1 total votes." Ah, you old scoundrel!! Explain. You think Rivas is harboring a glass jaw? Is that because of those reports that Beterbiev decked him in sparring? Even if he was, though, I'd be very surprised if CDD were the one to expose it.
Rivas has been screwed over due to his eye problems... Every time he's had a big step up fight the commissions refused to allow him to compete. Eye problems or not... Based on eye test alone(excuse the pun) he would have enough to beat Mansour and Breazeale...
Oscar RivasJew has eye problems, Ruslan Chagajew quit against Diamond as the fight was becoming tough. I think Diamond, the more proven will win him.
His last 4 fights were cancelled due to various other problems, first Showtime scrapped his fight due to lack of time than the next fight was scrapped due to his opponent pulling out, and then two other fights were cancelled due to GYM not finding him opponents.
He seems unable to get a licence to fight anywhere else. He should either retire( if his eye problems are that bad) or his management should start bringing good names to Canada. (Or, as mentioned earlier, he can at least fight a Dillion Carman)
He can fight in Canada, yes. Maybe in Monaco as well. He will get bigger fights, GYM has brand new 3 year deal with some Casino for 10 to 12 shows a year.
