It needed to clear 1 million easily to save face for the sport. If it did in fact do 2 million buys, then it's a big boost for boxing in the US. Get the rematch done and try dk bigger numbers again

Not really. There was a lot of hype around this fight and for good reason. I thought it would do 2M initially when the fight was announced for Sept 2017. Very strong numbers for this pair. It surely means we are in for a trilogy at the very least

 

It took both of these guys to do these numbers. Nelo was the bigger draw for sure but GGG's reputation and his popularity drastically gave this fight the infusion it needed to hit the 2M mark

Where did you get that info from? Everything I saw was above 5. I'm not doubting you, as I was expecting the numbers to be epically inflated.

Was just a joke from the start. But the interest from the casuals was crazy. I had random people asking about it, that I didn't even know knew boxing existed

 

I don't think the 2M mark is official yet. I think it will do around 1.5M.
It is a big success regardless.

If it did that much I'm surprised but thinking about it someone mentioned in another thread I think the Mayweather fight helped sales. Everyone knew the May-McG fight would do big numbers and every time that fight was mentioned Alvarez-GGG was usually brought up right after and talked about as the REAL fight that was free promotion to millions
