Andre Son of God Ward had nothing more ever to prove, nothing. He is an ATG, HOF.

I don't feel he is ATG.. Hof yes, but his career is too short to be ATG. The last fight was a way to propel him to finish his career as an ATG, but he stopped his career. Too early. ATG career no..

I agree he's an ATG and a already has a spot in the hall of fame but disagree that moving up to HW and beating Joshua wouldn't do too much more for his legacy. If he did that he would be alone as the only boxer in history to move up from super middleweight to win a world title in Boxing's premier division. That would have placed him amongst the very best boxers in history, top 5. Right now he's in the the top 50 as an ATG....for what he was able to accomplish in a relatively short professional career is great and there's no denying his ability as a boxer.

I would've liked to see him win a Cruiserweight title.

But thank god he isn't seriously aiming at Joshua. He'd be killed.

The guy was just so damn good. He did whatever it took every time he stepped in the ring. I think you have to favor him H2H against any SMW in history except a prime RJJ and then a 50/50 tossup with Calzaghe.

Ruiz was considered the weakest of the HW title holders at the time. Joshua is considered the best HW at present. But it would have been the 3rd time a boxer who began their career at 160 or 168 moved up to win a HW title. Jones, Toney and Ward if he made the leap and won

How is he not worthy?

And why do so many boxing fans have standards that far and beyond exceed those of Hall itself.

Toney technically never achieved that, because he was on performance enhancers.

But I believe you forgot Fitzsimmons.

True, but he put on a masterful performance any way. I totally forgot about Bob....the very first 3 division champion. We can replace Toney with Fitzsimmons

ability wise at smw clearly as good as jones, the number 1 h2h smw.

equal first footing, never troubled by a smw once.

It was a good performance from Toney, but I believe it was never officially recognized, and when that happened, Normy Stone announced that Ruiz's retirement was short lived, and that they were back.

It was bizarre. The Quiet Man always embraced an ugly style of throwing one punch, followed by excessive clinching and holding, reset, repeat. But when he fought 2 former middleweights in Jones and Toney, he tried boxing with them both, and abandoned the style I thought would have suited him better in those 2 instances.
