Although I don't think it's quite as desperate as Lampley makes it out to be (his remarks came after Golovkin-Canelo 1), it is clear that GGG's physical peak is well behind him now.

As I said in another thread on this subject, the old GGG would have stopped Canelo within 6-8 rounds. Once Canelo started to tire in the fight and began to retreat against the ropes, he would have been chopped down rapidly by GGG with punishing shots.

It's a testament to GGG's ability and skill level that, even in his decline, he was able to rise to #1 in the Ring magazine pound-for-pound ratings.

It's a shame that it took until the end of Golovkin's career for him to get his just due. But it happens, as it did with Joe Calzaghe back in 2008.

Better to get your just due late rather than never.

Still, GGG is definitely on the way down and likely won't be around for too much longer. At least not at the top of the sport.

Yeah. He just can't do it anymore like he used to.

    Aging happens.

When GGG said he wanted to go till he was 40, I knew he was exaggerating. He’s got maybe 1-2 years left.

Yeah. I also think he's got a maximum of two years left.

And there's a good chance, in my mind, that he will lose/draw (legitimately) at least once in that stretch of time.

GGG reign as p4p no.1 will be longer than Ward.

Kell Brook beat the prime out of him. The guy has never been the same since.

I want to see him beat BJS, Canelo and maybe a couple lesser fights against top 10 guys and call it a day. If he can do that undefeated, that be pretty wild.

Golovkin showed Canelo too much respect at times. His decline isn't that drastic.

I totally agree. And my guess is that GGG feels the same way, after the fight.

I would think that GGG would start much faster in a rematch. And not throw away some early rounds.

    This.

What was also interesting is that in an interview Sanchez said that GGG threw to the body and that Canelo rolled as he landed, so it landed somewhat to the back. The ref warned GGG not to do that and therefore they stopped. That poses the question as to whether Team GGG thought that the ref would DQ Golovkin if he was given even a small reason to do so.

They really need to make sure that the officials are 100% for the rematch.
