I highly doubt the hard hitting smaller men that you sparred with come close to Fitz in terms of punching power/ability.

 

Jennings, Scott, Allen, and Thompson would be legendary if they came along at a time when beating up fat drunks and middleweights was all it took to be heavyweight champ. Of course Jennings, Scott, and Thompson probably couldn't get a fight against Corbett, if they did, all would beat him in about 30 seconds.

Video is so much better than the old time myths. This guy couldn't beat anybody in the top 200 today.

Ortiz and his people have put a post on twitter showing that he takes a medication for high blood pressure and the WBC? And VADA have supposedly withdrawn their objections to his meds.
My partner is a practice manager at a local surgery and she has told me that the drug he is on,[Losartan] is prescribed for that condition.

I'm not questioning Jeffries chin at all ,I actually believe it was top notch and have said so several times here. I'm just saying Corbett wouldn't be the one to test it!

Corbett landed 404 punches on Jeffries in their 1st fight.Jeffries 140 on Corbett.

My point still stands, what is Corbett's best win, Sullivan? And is it enough to call him an ATG?
The man who first wore a protector revolutionized boxing ,as did Ted Kid Lewis when he wore a mouthpiece,Lewis was an ATG, but what if the first boxer to wear a protector had a record of 11-4-3, would he be an ATG?

 

I'm just arguing that Jeffries had a great chin. 404 punches landed is enough to test a chin regardless of who it is from. Corbett wasn't a puncher but 404, most more than likely clean, punches from him is enough to test a chin.

C'mon you have to admit that Corbett's style was innovative for his time.

I'd bet plenty of full-grown heavyweights could survive 400+ punches from a small cruiserweight who wasn't known as a puncher.

 

For his time he was innovative but we are talking a modern high end fighter with a serious amateur pedigree who is 6'4" and 240 lbs alot stronger alot more powerful. Hopefully you admit that weight classes exist because the size and strength disparity is real...

I don't see Ortiz as a lot stronger than Jeffries. Power I would probably edge to Ortiz but Jeffries can take it. There's only like a 20 lb weight disparity between the two fighters. I don't see that as very notable especially since Ortiz has a lot more fat.

That bout is completely insignificant to anything related to Corbett's legacy unless we are noting how kind he was to demonstrate his skills for the Edison company.

 

It doesn't matter how he ko's them its the result that matters. Fitz clearly hit harder than most fighters. It's not impossible for a middleweight to hit harder than a light heavyweight, cruiserweight, or even heavyweight. It's also not impossible for a heavyweight to not hit hard for the weight. Happens all the time in the lower divisions. Are you saying heavyweight is the exception?
