If it wasn't for Goosen, it would have been another Handler to lose $, Ward seems to be an ATG at swindling people, he is great at this...Goosen came in straight forward vs a guy who doesn't play fair.

A good match up for Andre Ward would have been Prime Bob Arum or Prime Don King...These two guys had the skills & wills to send any boxer to Dystopia, but Ward came later in their careers & picked on Straight Forward Goosen & Newbie Jay-Z

He clearly wasn't a popular or loved champion which suggests with time he'll likely be forgotten or under valued. Which as a Ward fan I think is a real shame.

But Ward only has himself to blame he mishandled much of his career and didn't have a clue in regards to self promotion and managing his image in the media, he made a lot of mistakes in that regard.

In regards to the timing of his retirement it was a shock but it also makes sense. He is 33, while not very old, he's at the age where he may very well start declining, too many fighters stay too long, very, very few retire when they should.

Also in regards to his options to make another big payday I think he's exhausted his possibilities. The Kovalev fights where meant to be his big, signature, marquee fights and they were a financial disaster. Ward got very well paid, hell I'd say massively over paid and it must now be clear to his promoters and TV networks he will never be a draw and so there are no big paydays left for Ward. I think that had a lot to do with his retirement decision.

Goossen was known for being a stand up guy. His fighters loved him and many people involved in the sport had nothing but good things to say about him.

Listen to what Malik Scott says here.

Exactly, both Bob Arum and Don King would have fixed Ward's eyes straight and made him appreciate purses and made him fight.

Jay Z was perfect for Ward because he doesn't having any experience in boxing politics. It's a completely new venture and he needed Ward to launch his promotion more than Ward needed him.

Again you are correct,he is an ATG swindler. Further evidenced of this is how he short changed Brand who only received 30k in earnings before tax, while Ward pocketed 850k for beating a bum. None of GGG's lesser opponents have been paid anything less than 300k for their troubles. Monroe received 500k for risking his life.

And then we have the kovalev debacle. Somehow Kovalev the champ, the more active guy has to rely on gate receipts and ppv sales to receive his purse, while Ward pockets 6 million on top of ticket and ppv sales.

Absolute madness and then has the cheek to get his trainer to go up on stage and produce crocodile tears over Kathy Duva taking a large share of Kovalev's earnings.

The Goosen clan in general are well respected & did good for boxing & their boxers, his brother buying valuable time for Chico & then telling him "You gotta ****ing get inside on him now"

The thing is, 33 is not old for someone who spent the majority of their career waiting on the sidelines inactive. We're not talking about a few months, but years....5 years not fighting. Then his defensive style and lifestyle outside of the ring ensures he is not the type to have done untold damage to his body. He may have declined, but so do many of the other fighters who do not stop aging. It's part and parcel of the sport, you learn to adapt and rely on wisdom instead of instinct to get through.

After 5 years of not fighting, he then returns and only fights 1 top opponent after mauling through 3 back to back bums who were paid a pittance. Only then to return to sit on the side lines once again. This is not a true champion let alone a great record by any stretch of the imagination. I would love to give credit and say he was a top fighter, but the truth is he was an out and out fraud.

The sad thing is he didn't need to resort to having a political career, considering his ring IQ and talent. Had he fought top guys consistently, and paid them their fair share, and fought on an equal playing field, then you could rightly argue he had a great career, even if he lost to one or two of the big names.

Canelo without the corruption in his favor, has had a solid career and many will look back with joy at the exciting fights he had taken part of, even though he lost, he risked his reputation in an attempt to achieve true greatness.

I don't see any reason why Ward will fold under the weight or pressure of Don King or Bob Arum, I can't see them forcing him to take an L, but they will make him suffer in life (not a lot, since Andre Ward will think he won as long as he stays undefeated), even if he is locked up in prison for the rest of his life

Jay-Z minor loss is not big, due to the small size of investment & the need to put some $ to get into the world of boxing...However, it will influence the way he deals with boxers in the future, he will be more strict on how to get his $ back first...then everything else...Had he started with easy going boxers, he will be less strict & probably go deeper into boxing

Ward has done it all and called it a day on his own terms.

That so many are so desperate to tear him down is only further testament to how good he was and what he achieved.

Haters gotta hate and he couldn't care less. Carry on haters.

No he didn't, he is not the reckless/exciting type that "has done it all"...

Very few humans (let alone boxers) get to have it their way, but he did successfully impose his will upon everybody

There is more to life than boxing. And I don't think that he gives a dam what you or others think

Not to Andre Ward, all that mattered to him in life...is an Undefeated Boxing record

Everything in his life is based on never losing since he was 12, everyone will be judged in -his mind- based on that impressive fact

History will never be kind to cheaters, he has no place as an ATG or even HOF. World class fighter, nothing more.
