Also, a lot of the time in sparring, Ali used to stand in front of his sparring partners (most notably Larry Holmes) and have give-and-take wars with them.

He didn`t get hit with anywhere near 266 punches in the Foreman fight he took most of the punches on the arms and showed great glove control, plus the research into the 13 interviews showed 16% slower speech patterns than previous interviews, Ali`s interview after the Foreman fight was a classic no sign of damage at all.

Punches from Shavers were a lot harder than any he took before, Foreman caught him good a few times but he never visibly rocked him the way Shavers did, the nearest punch previous to Shavers was the left hook Frazier caught him with in the 15th of their first fight.

Ali failed a medical before the Holmes fight in a documentary it was stated that Ali couldn`t touch his nose or stand on one leg but they were trying to save the sport so hid it and the fight went ahead.

Is this the same fight where the infamous snake in the grass don king was giving ali diet pills and telling him they were the fountain of youth?

"In a recently published study, scientists at Arizona State University found that Ali's speech rate (syllables per second) fell by 16 percent immediately after the Shavers bout."

Maybe you misunderstood him due to his slurred speech? :)

Dr. Pacheco said the first fight with Leon Spinks did a helluva lot of damage. You had a ex Olympic champion teeing off on an out of shape 36 year old. He thought this fight pushed Ali up to the edge,,the Holmes fight finished him off.

I know he didn't take that many clean head shots in the Foreman fight, but he took some horrendous shots downstairs when letting Foreman tee off on him when against the ropes with his high guard.

Pacheco wanted Ali to retire after Frazier 3.
Again though most damage is done in sparring.
