I'd say about a 7. More of an accumulation puncher than a one shot guy like Wladimir. Also Vitali preferred throwing in volume, and while he was great at fighting at distance he wasn't much of a counter puncher. He was very economical with the punches he did throw, not on par in power like Foreman, Lewis, Wlad or Shavers but he still hit fairly hard.

Well, Shavers couldn't even floor an ancient Ali; Frazier did. So did Cooper. It doesn't always work out that a harder puncher drops a common opponent.

Lewis had more one punch power than Vitali. Briggs not known for stamina also shot his load early in the lewis fight,he was still green as far as fighting note worthy guys.He learned from the foreman fight and fought much smarter against Lewis but??? Lewis technical punching proved too much after rnd one. Briggs was also about THIRTY FIVE pnds heavier against Vitali, and it wasnt fat.

About 7 at the top level. A hard puncher but mainly was stopping people with his volume. Not really the type of puncher that would turn things around late in a fight with only one punch or flurry.

Briggs was 27 years old having his 32nd fight against Lewis,he was prime.
Briggs was 2 months off of 39 when he fought Vitali and 23.25lbs heavier, not "about 35 lbs," and it was steroid created muscle. He was on the way down.Correction Briggs was 262.25lbs for Vitali. My mistake.

A very hard puncher but not a true one puncher ko artist.
Rating would be similar to Hagler. If Julian Jackson 10
    Hagler would be 8.
Both boxers punches were crisp, accurate and sharp and
did a lot of facial damage and broken bones.

Briggs was 228 when he fought Lewis he was 262 with Vitali? What are you talking about? Thats 34/35 pnds. you are switching points now i stated the weight differance from the lewis fight,bc those are two we are comparing here in who hurt Briggs more....Vitali fought the tougher version than Lewis did...no doubt despite age.

Shannon Briggs left in intensive care after 12 round beating at the hands of Vitali Klitschko
" Shannon Briggs was in intensive care last night with concussion and fractured cheekbones after his defeat by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in Germany.

The New Yorker, 38, lost on points in Hamburg but Kent referee Ian John-Lewis refused to stop the fight despite the horror beating.

Hospital doctors discovered a broken left orbital bone in Briggs’ face, a broken nose and torn left biceps, which will keep him in hospital for one week. "

If it was steroid muscle than that would make him harder to knock out wouldnt it? so how does Lewis knockout rate over the beating he took by vitali? Which should have been stopped if you read that article i posted. lol

i can tell you first hand i met Briggs in 2007 and in 2010 he was by far in better shape and tougher...the Vitali klitchko is what broke him and he got bigger ( muscular)after 2010,not before. Theres an obvious difference now bc hes in better shape bc of peds...no real evidence he used them in 2010.

I don't agree, Briggs was like a walking heavy bag ih that fight he took almost all the blows from Vitaly. He could knock out his opponents only with a ton of well placed blows.

The bicep injury was self sustained early in the fight which meant he was one-armed for most of it and Vitali still couldn't get rid of him. Vitali in a similar situation quit on his stool against feather duster Chris Byrd.

Briggs around that time had chronic stamina issues. In his previous 12 rounder he was so gassed out he was barely able to throw a punch. Besides Vitali, he never went past 2 rounds in 10 years. His resume is littered with no-names he knew he'd be able to bang out early before his old body gave in on him.

Point is an old , injured and poorly conditioned Briggs took the kitchen sink off Vitali and never went anywhere. Thats not the sign of a heavy hitter.
If Vitali had heavy hands Lewis wouldn't have been able to block his punches with his face.

Id say Vitali hit no harder than Tyson Fury.

You are right on the weight I misread it.
I believe a fighter is nearer his prime when he is 27 than when he is 38,and I dont think that is even arguable. Briggs had just pulled off his greatest win over lineal champion George Foreman and was at 227lbs for his 6'4" height at a good weight, 35lbs of unnecessary muscle just made him slower.
I agree the fight should have been stopped the referee Ian John Lewis lives about 10 miles from me and Im not one of his admirers.
The point is Vitali could not floor Briggs despite landing nearly 200 flush shots on him. Briggs was never in a life threatening situation after that fight ,he did not have broken bones under both eyes, he had a fractured left orbital bone and a broken nose, he did not lapse into a coma, neither was he difficult to wake up, he was put in intensive care as a precautionary measure and was coherent and lucid exchanging words with his promoter and the hospital staff,he was kept in hospital solely to repair his torn bicep and issued a joint statement with hospital staff the following morning stating there was no serious damage to him.It was in all our national papers including the Daily Mail and is on line and readily available. The report you posted is exaggerated and contains several untruths,ie two broken bones in his face ,rushed to hospital etc,It was written by Steve Lillis who now is an anchor man for Frank Warren's Box nation,Lilli's subsequent follow up piece plays down the hyperbolic talk of life threating situations and gives a much more considered and truthful version, again easily available on line.

ali was one of greatest chins ever, so why even write "he couldnt even" when discussing his chin?

your point is non existent, and you should have known it before posting it.

the question you should have asked is why vitali was allowed to "defend" against a 39 year old man. The guy was a walking punchbag by then, which makes why he got clubbed a lot very obvious.

Did that really not occur to you even once whilst you were typing all that? its hard to believe it didnt.

8 out of 10 among heavyweights.
7 out of 10 among super heavyweights, or rather, pound for pound.
So, sorry boys, I'll sit on the fence and say 7.5
