Mathews was ranked after beating Layne. Cavicchi was ranked through this time he was Euro champion. He was in the top ten when ingo beat him. As I said Erskine was one of four of ten ranked men Johansson already beat whilst Ingo was world champion. Lavorante was #3 when Moore beat him and was still rated in the top ten when Ali beat him.
Cus didn't just say he Liston was great. He sid "Liston compares favourably with ANY Of the heavyweights of the past." Some definitions of compares favourably: Cambridge Dictionary: " If something compares favourably with something else, it is better than it. " WordReference.com: "Be as good as" "Be better than" "Be on a par with." That's "compares favourably" explained. I'll assume that you know the meaning of the word "any." Cus also said: 'How does Liston compare with Joe Louis?' I have to stop and think. So you know how good a fighter Liston is." Even the lab in your av would understand the implication there. And no, neither Cus nor any other boxing authority compared Ingo favourably with the greatest boxers of earlier days.
Louis, Marciano, Ali, etc. also spoke highly of Sonny http://cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/Article-SonnyListon.htm
No the statement is just plain false. He said: "It This content is protected one of the key reasons ATG and Liston This content is protected rarely mentioned in the same breath." This is a false statement. He used the words IS and ARE. This indicates that he's talking about the present. He was not talking about the past. What may or may not have been the case in the past has no bearing on the veracity or lack thereof, of his statement concerning the present. If I say: Women are not permitted to vote in American elections. This would be a false statement. The fact that it might have been a true statement if it had been said at some point in the past does not alter the fact that it is a false statement, and needs to be corrected. There is very little that is intellectually challenging in the comprehension of any of this.
Just to make sure I have this right: The rule is that it doesn't matter what an opponent's rating was when Johansson fought him? What's important is his rating after Johansson became champion?
That's what's puzzling me, I looked at the yearly ratings and neither Lavorante,Cavicchi,Erskine were ranked when they fought Ali, and Ingo as far as I can see. I'm waiting for a reply to my question.
Of course I can give the months they were ranked. A fighter can make the yearly ranking just from being in the rankings on the month the year ends. All those guys were ranked at the time they fought champions every bit as much as Harris, Foley and machen were when Sonny beat them. Erskine, like I said earlier, Even made the rankings once Ingo was world champion.
And yet historically it still remains that Sonny was usually ranked behind Gene Tunney for many years.
A great many folks believe that tea prices in China don't accurately reflect the costs of production.
