how much worse was he than in the Taylor fight. That was not that much time and the weight was not a bigdeal, he was a bigger guy. It just seems Winky and Hopkins were past his ceiling of whom he could beat.

Hopkins did very little moving against Pavlik.

Golovkin was briefly his mandatory back in 09 for his WBO belt IIRC.

Revisionist nonsense. He had plenty heart and showed it against Zertuche, Miranda, Taylor, Martinez. People forget with the Hopkins fight Kelly had Bronchitis, was on medication, and had a 101 fever the day before the bout. Symptons being fatigue, lethargic, shortness of breathe, chest pains.

    secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/pavlik-hopkins-boxing-is-a-cruel-teacher

" Dr. Domenic Coletta of the New Jersey Athletic Control Board came into the room to administer the final pre-fight physical. Everything went according to form until Coletta asked, “Are you on any medication?”

    “Yes, sir.”

    “What for?”

    “Bronchitis.”

    “Did you have a fever?”

    “Not today.”

    “Before today?”

    “A hundred and one degrees.”

    “What have you been taking?”

Mike Pavlik handed a sheet of paper to the doctor. “Here’s what they gave Kelly.”

Coletta scanned the list. Mucinex, penicillin (one shot on Wednesday night), and ciprofloxacin (500 mg twice a day through the day of the fight)."

He was an absolute beast, one of my favorite fighters, he lost to BHop and Maravilla, who gives a ****, that means nothing, no shame there, they're great too.

We live in a culture that disowns athletes once they're no longer "hot". Boxers get it worst of all.

He loved to party and drink too much.

Sometimes underrated, occasionally overrated. Tough fighter with combination of size and, early on, heart.

    Great fighter
Had a real fan friendly style as well. He would be a force to be reckoned with if he was competing today as well.

He moved very well, but wasn't on his bicycle or "running". A couple steps to the side, the right moves to be out of range of Pavlik, or smothering him up close.

I remember Hopkins talking afterwards about his game plan and how he win and so much of it was footwork.
