This content is protected Agree or disagree? I think Joshua is already a much bigger name. I do agree that the Heavyweight Champ needs to fight in U.S. to be mainstream but the path doesn't necessary has to go past Wilder. Wilder just happen to be the belt holder.
I don't think it matters at all what continent AJ knocks Wilder out cold on. What matters is whether Wilder's management actually let their glass jawed joke in the ring with Joshua.
imo fighters used to have to fight in America because that's where all the big names and big money was. But AJ is the draw and Wilder is a laughing stock judging by his purses over there, so no, its got to happen over here in the UK to make big big money !
But Wilder isn't a big enough name in the US to escalate Joshua to superstardom, his best attendance is like 12-13k and that was heavily supplemented by Polish-Americans supporting Szpilka. Sparking Wilder doesn't guarantee that Joshua will become a household name in the US or anywhere else simply because the general interest in the US isn't with boxing. Even if the interest was there stateside there's no guarantee that Joshua will attract the same interest because they don't buy into the same #stayhumble "people's champion" stuff the same way that British people did with Bruno, Americans love a loud mouth heel to hate, and Joshua just isn't that. This is just Wilder being Wilder; spouting nonsense on social media.
Well aj is going to be making from now on basically 20 million a fight minimum regardless of who he fights. Wilder makes what, 1 or 2 million a fight? Its honestly the equivalent of Liam smith telling canelo he has to fight him in Liverpool to become global. Its either stupidity or madness
If Americans love a loud mouth to hate, then Wilder is perfect.Thats why he needs to have big fights before he faces AJ.He wants AJ to make him a superstar, the same way Klitschko made AJ a Superstar. If i was Aj i wouldnt want to do that.
The thing is though AJ will never be a Recognised global name,if he dosent fight in the US.He cant just stay in the Uk,which is what i'd and im sure most brits would like. But i see two routes for AJ,the conventional America route, make him a star in the US.Or route B,be innovative and fresh take him to places, like the Middle East like Dubai or Africa, his heritage of Nigeria,i'm sure he wants to fights over their in front of his people, you can make him into a Ali type figure over their, and so much money to make,it's unbelievable,as long as his brand stays how it is and keeps on winning,he will make astronomical amounts of fame and money.
He doesnt need to fight wilder in the U.S or U.K but he does need to fight here at some point that's just a fact.
I sort of agree, AJ needs to start traveling and fight in Africa, Tokyo and China. That would be dope. He would make Wilder look like a fool.
Exactly,it will also act as a blueprint for future fighters to follow, as well as add more evidence to the increasing trend,of you do not need to fight in America to be a global star.It would also quickly accelerate the demise of America being the mecca and home of boxing,UFC is taking over from boxing in the US.Also when every fighter goes to the US,they want to become a ppv fighter on HBO or Showtime, but all of them have the shadow of Mayweather on them, they all want to be like him, money wise, but they never will be,look at Canelo,GGG,thats why i think they should do something different with AJ.Imagine being the first boxer to fight for a HW title in Nigeria,Dubai,he would take immense pride and leave a legacy probably greater than Tyson,Mayweather, close to Ali.It would also inspire a whole bunch of kids in Africa and the Middle East to take up boxing and make the sport bigger, and find new hotspots, rather than the Traditional four of America,Cuba/Pierto Rica/ and Mexico
True story, when there was a conflict between Russia and Georgia years ago quite a few 'folks' in the South thought the Russians invaded the State of Georgia
