I was as surprised as anyone the night Holyfield was stopped by Toney via corner surrender. Do you feel that under different circumstances Holyfield could have beaten Toney ?

Yes, he could. It's not like Toney was stylistically the worst nightmare for Evander. Toney fought much like Qawi - great skills, iron chin and nice counterpunching with pretty good power. Difference was that 41 y.o. Holy was slow like hell (watch also his previous fight vs Byrd), unlike quick energizer which was Holy in his 20s.

Toney was Holyfield's first fight back from shoulder surgery to repair his rotator cuff. He was never a top heavy again after that injury and surgery, though this being his first fight back from a layoff at 41 made him all the more vulnerable.

So yeah, probably any Evander prior to 02 has a shot. And any Evander prior to 99 would be a sure bet.

You're out of your mind if you think he could do it easily.

85/86 Holyfield (pre HGH) would probably get stopped by 2003 Toney.

    Real deal easy.
But Toney is the most complete fighter I have seen, love to watch him work.

Late eighties Holyfield beats most guys in the range of 200lbs from throughout history pretty easily, to be fair. Not a knock on Toney.

Toney just seemed so much quicker than him. I think it would be difficult for any version of Holyfield to deal with the speed factor. And let's not forget, Toney was also on a downward trajectory. It could be argued that it was Toney's last great performance.

Theres a helluva lot of people walking around then out of their minds. Peak heavy Holy is someone that I would pick to stop any version of Toney ! It would be awkward for a few rounds before Evander imposed himself on him and started getting to much

Cooper? Dokes? He had a habit of making his fights difficult. Toney was better than those guys.

This. Besides having a great chin Toney wasn't that great at heavyweight. Prime Holyfield wouldn't knock Toney out, but would definitely outwork him and get the decision.

Something wasnt quite right with Holyfield in that fight. It was almost as if he only had enough energy to fight for one round. Holyfiled has never been 100% after that first Moorer fight imo.

On topic I think a better version of Holyfield pre Moorer I should be able to outwork Toney

He was 41 and just had his shoulder reconstructed..what the hell is wrong with you people? You guys keep pondering this like it was some mystery. How many athletes came back 100% from rotatory cuff surgery at 41 years of age?
