What US cities would you say have a history of producing the best fighters? Here’s my first try at a top 10:

    1) New York
    2) Philadelphia
    3) Los Angeles
    4) Detroit
    5) Chicago
    6) Boston
    7) Baltimore
    8) Cleveland
    9) San Francisco
    10) Cincinnati

Oxnard, St. Louis and Flint have done well for small cities.

Definitely. I tend to think of Flint and Oxnard as part of the Detroit and LA metro areas, but maybe I shouldn’t.

Well, Oxnard is basically the crappy part of Ventura County. I've always thought of Ventura-Oxnard-Santa Barbara as a separate area from LA.

You're crazy. Philly has had better fighters overall than NY. Also I'd add Oxnard to the list.

I went back and forth on # 1 and 2. My reasoning for putting NYC first is the overall number of top boxers the city has produced. I would put Philadelphia at #1 pound for pound...it produces the most elite fighters for its population, but I still give NYC the edge overall.

You definitely will not be adding Oxnard to the list.

Surely Pittsburgh deserves a mention. Produced Greb, Burley, Angott, Zivic, and Yarosz amongst others.

It might be a brain fart by me but I can't think of even 5 significant fighters in the last 60 years from Chicago

Youngstown OHIO - Kelly Pavlik, Ray Mancini, Harry Arroyo, Jeff Lampkin, Greg the Flea Richardson all from a town of less than 80,000.

The only ones I can think of in recent years are the Polish guys who have relocated there, such as Golata and Adamek.

Robert Garcia and Vargas are from Oxnard, other guys train there. At that, RGBA is mostly in Riverside now, though there is still some presence in Oxnard. And a huge source of talent is San Antonio; aguy there is turning out amateur champions one after another and the go to Riverside when they turn pro. His gym is now a RGBA facility.

Pittsburgh needs to be up there.
