I think I agree with you on Cincinnati. Even though Chicago hasn’t been known as much of a boxing city in recent years, or even recent decades, they were big from the late 19th century up until at least the 1950s. I think they are kind of like San Francisco in this regard. I just read a book about SF’s boxing history, mainly covering the period from 1890 to 1920. Therefore, I may have been a little biased unintentionally in rating them so high.

Chicago spent nearly 30 yrs largely devoid of boxing. Few fights, little talent, etc came out of Chicago. Even after it was legalized again in 26 and became a good venue city the talent was largely imported and those marquee matches became increasingly more rare after 1960 which also had an effect on the talent that derived from chi-town. Chicago is my favorite city but its boxing heritage is pretty thin sadly.
Boston should be higher if we're including metro area. Brockton and Lowell are about 10 minutes away. That makes our list John L Sullivan, Sam Langford (Rated best all time P4P by this site), Sandy Saddler (a top 5 featherweight) Marvin Hagler, Rocky Marciano, Jack Sharkey and mickey ward. Definitely better than chicago.
Thanks, I agree. Do you think Boston should be higher than Detroit? Also, do you think I should drop Chicago entirely and replace it with maybe a city like Youngstown or St Louis? It’s also interesting to me that there are really no Southern cities on here, unless you count LA.
I would drop chicago. add youngstown at 9, I think boston and detroit are on the same level if we include metro areas. Grand Rapids with the mayweathers might even out with Hagler and ward for boston. I'd rank them about even. Also I would include Houston on this list perhaps at 10. They had Foreman, Juan Diaz, Reggie Johnson to their credit.
