Would that have meant Jones is the GOAT Light heavy?

It would have made him a candidate for greatest heavy weight of all time! Lewis was only ever knocked out when he was ill prepared, a well trained Lewis may have had a weak chin (but he did take tons of punches off Mercer) but you had to get past that reach, the 1-2 combo`s that Steward trained with him to throw so straight, for a fighter with Roy`s reach to get past that and land enough to stop a guy that size would be amazing.

If he thought had a chance he would have gone after Lewis instead of Ruiz. Smartly, he picked the much easier opponent.

Any accomplishments he had at HW have no bearing on his LHW standing.

Like the other poster said, it only affects his Pound for Pound standing

Lewis right hand on Jones would be like dropping a cinderblock on a kitten.

    P.S.
I'm not endorsing dropping a cinderblock on a kitten

He couldnt have done it. Roy had already been slipping for a while and beating Ruiz was a great feat at that point, lennox would have been too much to ask at any point especially by 2003 when he hadnt been the same guy for years. People think he just suddenly dropped off but he already looked slower and had trouble with eric harding in 2000 so its not really that strange that a tall southpaw like tarver would give him even more trouble 3 years later.

Stop it! As much as I loved prime RJJ, even he knows he wouldn’t stand a chance against Lennox Lewis.

Despite his threats to move to heavyweight, he was never serious. In fact, I would have loved to see him come up for a chess match with Chris Byrd.

Not necessarily. Ezzard Charles' wins over multiple top heavies is a big part of his Light Heavyweight legacy.

When considering match ups with other greats, you cant deny the fact he knocked out guys like Elmer Ray while only weighing 175 increased his stock.

If a 190 pound Jones knocked out Lennox Lewis, it would be hard to argue a man of equal size could beat him. Its not like Jones gained tremendous muscle to fight Ruiz, he was about 185 as a light heavy.

He had already beaten Ruiz. What more was there to prove?

If he had beaten Lewis and retired, he'd probably be regarded as the greatest of all time.

Jones vs Lewis? Using a phrase Ali coined: "Jones becomes the first human satellite (courtesy of LL)."

And he would've been if Jones Jnr had beat him or even been competitive...In reality, he quite possibly snaps jnr's neck !
